“2nd Time lucky”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2013 via mobile

1st time we visited Smiths we got off to a bad start but the evening ended well. We said then that we would be back and last night Saturday 11th May we were.......Fabulous! Food, service, atmosphere just superb. Nice touch the possibility to mix-n-match between the set menu and the specials board. Whoever thought to sandwich a restaurant between a not very salubrious high rise block of flats and a railway station was taking a terrific leap of faith but it worked. We 4 arrived at 7 and the place was busy then. A constant stream of patrons ensured that when we left at about 10 something it still was. Thank you for a very enjoyable night and good luck with the Blog !.

“So-so”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Found the restaurant to be punching a little above its weight. The decor and furniture, I'm afraid, doesn't match its desired image. I was seated near the bar/serving area, opposite a door which was wedged open giving an unobstructed view of the disabled loo. I asked for the door to be closed, but before long it was back open again. Set-price menu was OK, but with a bottle of red costing £15 the price for the two of us was £55 - an amount not expected in this restaurant. (The menu itself was a cheap laminated thing and there was another laminated piece that was kept on the table advertising something to do with a Russian woman and cats.)

“Lovley friday night meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

First time trip to Smiths in Eccles. Lovley atmosphere, very pleasant service by a young waitress, not long to wait between meals, good offer for the fixed price menu 19.95 for 3 courses, unusual but great range of special dishes including desserts such as waffleberry pudding, well presented dishes and good portion sizes for dishes. Will be going back again soon.

“Disapointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2013

I could not wait to get out!
After a trip to India I wanted to reminisce by having the Goan curry, sadly this was a boil in the bag effort. My girlfriend had the steak which was medium rare and was still chewing it down church street.
There was no interaction from staff, bad experience all round.
Will not be going back!

“Unpretentious bistro food by station near tram terminus.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

Very pleasant evening with friends with some eating from good value set menu some a la carte from day's board. Friendly service and reasonably priced array of drinks. My own reason for not giving 5 stars was over salty beef brisket (though not as bad as elsewhere). Delicious deserts.
