Helen Martins owl house museum in Nieu Bethesda is a 43km drive along a tar road from Graaf-Reinet. It is worth the journey, wherever you are travelling from. A talented yet troubled artist in her life, produced incredibly interesting sculptures in cement and glass, her home, now a museum give you a fascinating insight into her life. In my opinion, a not to be missed art experience.

Been on my bucket list, so I really enjoyed the visit to the Owl House during our recent road-trip through that lovely part of South Africa. We spent a lovely morning in the house and outside in the yard - could have stayed there for the whole day to take advantage of the photo-opportunities. Wonderful visit to this interesting part of history. Definitely a highlight !

Nieu-Bethesda is such a wondrous little Klein Karoo gem that I'd like to keep it a secret lest a fake-food franchise decides to invade this rustic town where time stands still. BUT the experience of seeing Helen Matin's occult creations at the Owl House and Camel Yard is worth shouting it from the rooftops. For those with eyes able to pierce the veil this Eden is steeped in esoteric thoughts (and answers...) The people are strange but warm and friendly and the experience is magical.

So pleased to have finally visited the Owl House. Scenic drives to the old little town were an added bonus. Such a wonderful museum, it has been cared for and well preserved. Definitely watch the intro video before going to the house itself.some wonderful photo opportunities. Fascinating piece of South African history. Read Road to Mecca before you go for added context.
