“Tiring, but well-worth it”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

This was our first time to visit Corregidor Island. The tour went pretty much on schedule. When we got to the ferry station, all our papers were ready, including ferry and bus seats. After a little over an hour in the ferry, we arrived in Corregidor. The tour buses (or tramvias) were all lined up and properly numbered. Our tour guide Rowena was very knowledgeable about the island's history and she was quite entertaining as well. The pace can be hectic, with short 5 - 7 minute stops in certain areas, not really enough to explore. Do take the light and sound show at the Malinta Tunnel. This was a major highlight of the tour and I don't understand why the price for this show is not included in the package. (No problem though, as you can purchase tickets from the tour guide.) It felt eerie being in the dark tunnel, hearing the voices of Pres. Quezon, Gen. MacArthur and recordings of actual bombings. The tour takes you to the different interesting areas of the island. Lots of beautiful photo opportunities here.

The package includes buffet lunch which consisted of rice, vegetables, a pasta dish, 2 entrees, soup, salad and dessert. We brought our own snacks and bottled water to carry around. There are plenty washrooms around the island.

Best to go on this tour in the cooler months. There is a lot of walking involved and the tour hours are from 9:30 am to 2 pm, which can be very hot. There are umbrellas available in each bus. As mentioned earlier, I would recommend bring your own snacks and water.

It would be nice if the tour can be extended for another 1 - 1/2 hours so as to give the tourists more time to explore each site.

“A Great Getaway That's Close to the Metro”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Cooregidor Island can be accessed through daily tours by Sun Cruises. The ferry ride takes around 40-60 minutes.

The Good:
- Tour is well coordinated
- Buffet lunch included in package

The Bad:
- Somewhat rushed (tour takes around 4-5 hours excluding lunch and the Malinta tunnel light show)
- Buffet lunch is nothing special
- Extra Php 150 for the Malinta light and sound show, which is pretty boring

We purchased the Overnight Package by Sun Cruises for Php 2,499. The only way you can go around Corregidor island is by availing of one of their packaged “Optional Activities” for a fee. Everything, from trekking to going to the sunset/sunrise viewing point, has a corresponding fee. And they don't have bike rentals, contrary to the photos on their brochure.

So is it worth staying the night in Corregidor? If you don’t mind paying a little extra (and then some) to further explore the island, then staying the night will be a good idea. But if you’re on a budget (like us), I suggest to forego the overnight stay. The day tour pretty much covers everything (though a bit rushed) and there’s not much walking done to leave you without energy. Also, with the food being as expensive (and tasteless) as it is, you’re likely to spend more than the package you paid for to stay the night.

“Professionally Run Tour A day tour may not be enough”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

I went for a day tour here over a year ago.

Having granparents who were veterans of WWII I grew up with these stories.

The tour had its highlights such as the Malinta Tunnel that brought tears to my eyes.

Do bring some water. A 1.5 L bottle will do, since it is a little pricey.

“Exceptional tour of fascinating historical site”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

If you're into visiting major historical sites then this is a tour you will long remember. Corregidor is a small island in Manila Bay that was the last holdout for American troops and the government of The Philippines when the Japanese invaded during WW II. It's also remembered because General MacArthur was evacuated from Corregidor but not before vowing that he would return. The island was bombed heavily, and most of what is left is in ruins. But the ruins speak volumes. The whole tour, conducted by Sun Cruises, is excellent, efficient and professional, from boarding the ferry in Manila (on time departure, assigned seats, comfortable ride, and an excellent documentary about the island) to the tour itself (trolley-type busses take you from one site to another, with frequent stops and ample time to explore). Even the buffet lunch is great! I must especially mention the tour guide; an expert on events that transpired on Corregidor, he also seemed to be an expert on all of WW II. Too many tour sites to list; disappearing guns, Pacific War Memorial and the small but excellent museum to name a few (we added the Malinta Tunnel 30 minute tour, the 'sound and light' show is OK but being inside the tunnel and seeing the side tunnels made it definitely worth it). If you're in Manila I highly, highly recommend this all-day excursion to Corregidor. Just make sure you book in advance, our tour was completely sold out.
