We had the most spectacular holiday at this most magnificent place. I'm still enjoying scrolling over the vistas of mountains meeting the sea, even now after I am home. The palms furiously waved their tails like excited puppies in front of the shimmering pacific. What a perfect setting. The rooms are clay colored structures with beds and sofas sculpted out of adobe with elegant clean lines.

The entire experience at Rancho Pescadero is a feast for the eyes and the heart. The structures play with the beach setting in a way that establishes the comfort of being held yet encourages the expansiveness of letting loose. And then the people set up the vibe. There is a welcoming spirit that feels attentive without being intrusive. I have been to many spots in search of a place that feels just right. Although Rancho Pescadero is totally upscale, it is without pretense. Somehow all of the above conspired to allow us to thoroughly relax and restore. And all this was accomplished is a mere 5 days. We didn't want to leave, but now that we have, we know that we will return. Next time with family and friends with whom we want to share the perfection that you've created. Rancho Pescadero could charge three times the rates and still be a great deal.

In need of a peaceful, luxurious place to finish a book with an upcoming deadline of doom, I headed south of the border to Rancho Pescadero on the Baja surf. I had met the owner a few years back and have been fascinated as I witnessed her bring her amazing ideas for a whole new kind of hospitality to life. Her finished creation can only be described as magical. It is a whole new and fresh approach to luxury juxtiposed with funky and casual. The rooms are actually like little villas that remind you of a Bali getaway - simple and stunning. The beds are positioned so that you can be completely open to the surf, hearing the crashing of the waves all night and wake up to the incredible view of whales breaching and stringrays flipping in the water. Days for most guests - those without deadlines are spent surfing, or at least trying, hiking, beach walking and hanging by the pool. I found quiet, and inspiring places to hide away and write while being spoiled by the great service. Evenings begin with all the guests being mesmorized by the sunsets, going onto enjoy the hip poolside bar and restaurant. Nights end here with most gathering at the ring of fire to hang out and make new friends. The Ranch is like summer camp for adults except wtih five star accommodations! The staff (camp counselors if you will) have mastered individualized service. (Have you ever been to a place that the guests are hugging the front desk staff and exchanging emails with them at check-out???) So if you want luxury, minus the uppidity attitudes and pressure to dress for dinner, head to the Ranch where luxury and quirky casual meet for an amazing experience. And yes, the deadline of doom will be met.

Rancho Pescadero is magical. The most wonderful people, the perfect beachfront location, amazing service, gorgeous rooms, fantastic food, yoga in the most beautiful setting...Everything was perfect. It was the most relaxing, pampered vacation a girl could ask for. I went with 3 girlfriends, we are all hard working Moms. We laughed so much and felt so well taken care of. Would go back in a second. Felt totally blessed to be there.

If off the beaten path is your desire, this is the place. It feels like I have my own private spot in paradise. Every detail has been thought of from the incredibly comfortable bedding to the fresh fruit and coffee I find outside my door ever morning. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. My room is spacious to put it moderately. There is so much outdoor living I feel like I have my own personal villa. Come for a visit fast before they realize they aren't charging enough for their rooms or it is booked up for months into the future!

It’s exciting to write the first review of the new Rancho Pescadero only just discovered by Trip Advisor. My wife and I were in Baja recently for a dive trip with Baja Expeditions and we found a wonderful house to rent for a few days before the trip for our group of ten divers. Rancho Pescadero is built on 15 oceanfront acres 90 minutes north of Cabo San Lucas and 15 minutes south of Todos Santos on two miles of deserted beach at the end of a mile long dirt road in Pescadero. When we arrived we all felt a wave of instant relaxation wash over us as the owner walked us into the formal vestibule of the five bedroom Hacienda. We just didn’t expect anything this beautiful at the end of a dirt road. It was elegant everywhere we looked, in the design of formal spaces and private nooks, the beautiful (and varied) floor tiling, the windows, the furnishings, the upscale kitchen, the variety of fixtures all over the house, the hot tub pouring into the pool and the covered pool side conversation and dining area with its own BBQ kitchen. But it was the complimentary wooden cask of tequila in the dining room that convinced us Lisa Harper was running a class act.
However if you only need accommodations for couples or a small group she has now done the same thing right next door in the form of a 12 suite boutique hotel. The three small stucco buildings with four suites each provide a similar style and are also beautifully appointed. Her brochure slogan “an outrageous private oceanfront oasis” is no understatement. Every suite faces the ocean and consists of a master bedroom with adjoining large bathroom (and plenty of storage) and a covered patio with day bed, chaise lounges, table, refrigerator mini bar and in upstairs suites, a commanding view of the pristine beach and Pacific Ocean. And above each upstairs suite is a rooftop “crow’s nest” with a day bed draped in netting, perfect for sunsets, moonrises and reading. It’s a sort of “ensuite retreat ”. One day in November we climbed up there on the short circular staircase to watch a gilded sunset immediately followed by a moonrise over the Sierra de Laguna behind us. I especially liked the smaller details in the rooms like binoculars for bird and whale watching, iPod docks and wireless internet hookups but, thankfully, no TV. The hotel has a pool with an open air bar, restaurant with inside and outside seating and a fire pit out on the lawn. A second floor open air multipurpose room will be equipped with a wide screen TV for viewing major sporting events. At the time of this posting the restaurant wasn’t officially open but luckily we were able to sample the lunch menu and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. They can arrange spa services for you at their own beach front spa, surfing instruction, fishing guides (or surf casting right there) and other activities.
But as beautiful and comfortable as it was the most impressive aspect was how genuine and welcoming the owners and staff are. They want you to relax and feel at home. And the emphasis is on relax. It’s a resort but without the attitude. Rancho Pescadero doesn’t insulate you from your surroundings as so many resorts do. There’s just an easy transition between the inside and outside comforts.
It’s a beautiful place with nice people. And refreshingly they’re working with a local conservation group to protect and preserve the coastline and the turtle nesting program on their beach. We found a good one here and will return for all the above plus the sheer joy of going to sleep and waking to the sound of the ocean.
