Slightly delayed review, however my wife and I stayed at Rancho for a week during Sept 2012.

We do a fair amount of travelling and Rancho is definitely up there with regards to the best hotels we've stayed at. One of the first standout things they do it not waste time with the check in process, you literally turn up and get whisked off to the bar for a frozen margherita which is exactly what the doctor ordered when you've been travelling for 16 hours to get there.

We booked a Milagro suite which was really well proportioned, excellent views of the ocean and the upstairs deck was a nice added bonus.

The staff really make this resort stand out, it's as if nothing is too much trouble and any one of them could be your best friend from back home. Chef bueno and his team pull together some pretty incredible food and Sergio mixed up a mean frozen margherita. I must have drunk close to 60 of them over the week.

My only small gripe (which is partially my fault for being a pescatarian) was that there wasnt a huge amount of choice/variety on the menu. Not as much of an issue if you each meat, however I ended up having the same dish a few times. That said, chef bueno did whip up a couple of custom meals for me which was appreciated, however just pointing out the menu didnt change daily (there was normally a special) so if you're staying for a longer period be prepared to venture out for a bit of variety. I'm going to also add that the meals we had were always fresh and VERY tasty.

We stayed during September, which sound like it's the off season due to the heat. We even had the pool to ourselves some mornings which was nice. Later in the week the resort filled up a bit more so the dynamic at the pool changed a bit as it was a bit more crowded. I did notice a big complex next to the pool so suspect there are even more rooms there that they didn't have open at the time. Not sure it'll be quite as special if you've got 15-20 people at the pool.

Rancho was a really great holiday, the location and whole laid back concept is a welcome change from the normal stuck up attitude of top hotels.

      David

Room Tip: Go for the Milagro suite!

Rancho Pescadero was one of the nicest hotels that I have stayed at in a while. That being said, it was a little pricey. The staff makes you feel very welcome and listening to the waves crash while hearing a drink being made at the same time is almost heaven.
The rooms with a view have a nice view of the ocean, but since you aren't directly on the beach you don't have to worry about random walk by traffic - not that there is much traffic on the beach - we might have seen 5 people. I have never seen so many whales in my life, the binoculars that are provided in the room are the perfect touch.
The menu is a little expensive, but Chef Bueno does everything to make you happy. If you want to relax and be in a peaceful environment for a few days, this is the spot.

Room Tip: Room 11 is probably the least quiet upper room, it is next to the pool and the bar, but everything quiets down at around 10:00.

My wife and I brought my son (18) to Rancho Pescadero for President's weekend. We planned to surf and chill by the beach. We had a great time as the staff went the extra mile to make you comfortable and the food was amazing. A feature we noticed while we where there was that although the hotel was fully booked, the hotel was spacious enough to not feel crowded. The beach palapas were far enough apart that you felt peaceful. We felt comfortable enough that we did not even lock the door to our room.

We took an afternoon trip into Todos Santos which was colorful and fun but getting back to the hotel let you take a deep breath of relaxation.

Chef Bueno and Danny take care of anything you would want to eat and drink with Edgar making sure the rest of the place runs smoothly.

      We will be back

      Sean

We chose RP based on the Trip Advisor reviews, and the reviews were spot on! We stayed there over Valentine's weekend and loved it. I have two things to add to all the things everybody else has said:

      1. When people mention that it gets cold at night, they mean IT GETS REALLY REALLY COLD IN THE ROOM AT NIGHT and there is no central heat. I wish I had taken flannel PJs and warm slippers. (It gets cold outside too, obviously, but the resort provides blankets at the bar, on the beach, and at the restaurant.)

      2. The dinner menu at the restaurant wasn't that great. Everybody in our party of four wished that they served their lunch menu at night. We just wanted some delicious Mexican food: tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. The dinner menu was quite limited and the food was mediocre. (But the breakfasts and lunches were fabulous.)

      We would definitely go back!

I had the pleasure of staying at Rancho Pescadero for a week at the end of November, and I’ve been longing to return ever since. From the moment you arrive, you’re treated like a cherished member of the family. Every staff member seems genuinely happy to be there and willing to do anything to make your stay perfect. The hotel and its grounds are painstakingly maintained and beautiful; the rooms are gorgeous, comfortable and inviting; every little thing you could possibly need or want has already been thought of, and all of this is accomplished in a completely unobtrusive manner.

The restaurant is open air and casual, and its menu, created by the profoundly talented Chef Bueno, is heavenly. Everything, including fresh-caught fish and local-grown herbs and vegetables, is the epitome of fresh and flavorful.

The entire staff, masterfully led by Don and his assistant, Carla, is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. From the time you arrive, you’re never presented with a bar tab or a bill at the restaurant, as you don’t pay for anything until you check out – what a wonderful concept! Each morning, you will wake up to a basket of sweet breads and coffee waiting at your door.

With an uncrowded, expansive beach just a few steps away, Cerritos Beach nearby and Todos Santos just a 10-minute drive, there are plenty of things to do during your stay, although there were days when the most strenuous thing we did was move from one chaise lounge to another.

For those who like to get some exercise while on vacation, the hotel offers yoga classes and bicycles, and there are plenty of dirt roads and lots of beautiful beach on which to walk or jog.

The hotel draws a friendly and relaxed clientele – we loved everyone we met during our stay.

If you’re thinking about a stay at Rancho Pescadero, ponder it no longer – GO!!!
