It was a lovely birthday treat and our second stay at a Hoseasons lodge. We chose KP Lodges because it was fairly close to York but also in quiet countryside. The hot tub was definitely an essential feature after staying in a similar lodge last year, a refreshing start to the morning or relaxing end to the evening despite the terrible weather. My partner's made it a 'policy' now that I have a look around the holiday accommodation when we arrive before taking the luggage out of the car because I can be, let's say, a little bit 'picky' and has endured many trips to reception to ask for alternative rooms but I can say that each time with Hoseasons lodges I've been more than pleased with the accommodation. We stayed in lodge no. 21 which had three bedrooms, one more than I was expecting but not a problem. We used the two other bedrooms upstairs, master bedroom was spacious, light with large full length windows but was overlooked by another lodge rather than looking straight out to the countryside or golf course. Monsoon shower was lovely and large bath too. The other upstairs bedroom was great for our two year old and he was thrilled with his own tv to watch cbeebies!
Plenty of room in the hallway to hang coats and put muddy shoes. The kitchen, diner and lounge area is open plan, which was a little bit cold sometimes even after turning the heating up. The kitchen is well stocked for a short break and we ate in a few evenings. We didn't visit the clubhouse as there was a lack of vegetarian choices.
Pocklington village is well worth a look around and not too far. We used the park and ride service from Grimston Bar quite a few times to get into York as car parking is extortionate. I must admit I usually hate using public transport and avoid it if I can but the service was very good, £2.70 return for adults and children free. The rain hardly stopped while we were away but it didn't stop us having a great time. Lots to do in York, visited the Jorvik museum for the first time which was really interesting even for a two year old. Spent our last day before travelling home in the National Railway museum (which I had boring memories of as a child!) but have to say I really enjoyed this visit, don't know whether it's due to impending middle age or the enthusiasm of our little boy (who loves Thomas), but I would recommend a look.
There were a few niggles about the lodges which we noted on the feedback form so I will mention them here. There is some construction work ongoing and some noise can be heard from 8am and earlier, although they're not immediately visible from this lodge, depends where you're staying I suppose. Wi-fi in the lodges would be useful. The hot tub is not really secluded, there is some screening but this could be improved for privacy and as a windbreak. At the time of booking with Hoseasons we requested a high chair but were told that stair gates and baby monitors were to be requested at reception on arrival. However on arrival at 5.15 pm we were told maintenance staff had gone home so couldn't provide a stair gate until the next morning, also the monitor was not available as it was broken. It would have been helpful if Hoseasons had told us to contact the lodges before arrival. KP Lodges have e-mailed us since arriving home and apologised for this so just a note to anyone booking here to request beforehand.
Overall we had a fantastic break and I would recommend the lodges.
