The Wolds Retreat Bed and Breakfast

What a gem. My friend and I stayed here for 5 days and were given rooms next to each other as requested . It was a such a tranquil sanctuary away from the usual busy working week but close to amenities.
The room was modern, clean and warm. The ensuite bathroom is modern with toiletries and plenty of towels supplied The furniture in the room is a good quality pine with a very comfortable bed and plenty of pillows and cushions.
There is a kettle with tea, coffee and chocolate supplied.A radio is supplied but no television. I thought I would miss the televisio but it was not so. The surroudings are so beautiful and peaceful it encourages you to take advantage of them and walk around the grounds or just listen to the bird song.
There is free wi fi if you want to take your laptop though.
The breakfast choice was very good though vegetarian. However I did not feel I had missed out in any wayon the usual breakfast fayre and the standard was very high and plentiful.
We are not Buddhists but did attend a 1 day course at the large Georgian house in B&B grounds and met some lovely people. The atmosphere in the main house was very calming. Also in the grounds is a coffee shop selling home made fayre and a small shop in the main house selling a small variety of goods. In addition an old church and lake are close to the B&B and house. The grounds and are picturesque to walk around and feel very safe.
You are close to Pocklington so can shop there or visit the local tourist attractions. We went to York and the Eden Camp in Molton which in itself was a full day out really interesting for all ages and very good value.
Sorry this review is delayed but I feel this is a wonderful little gem of a place that should be shared with others.
We will not hesitate in returning hereat least yearly and more if possible.

We were unsure of what to expect from our stay as the b and b is ran by buddhists and is sold as a retreat however, we were thrilled when we arrived. the rooms were clean and nicely decorated, quite small but had everything we needed.
The service was fantastic and plenty of credit to the girl who runs the place single handedly for her fantatic breakfast and kind words.
I m not a good sleeper but had an amazing couple of nights here, i think due to the quiet location and the peaceful atmosphere around the place.
Thank you for a nice stay.

The service was perfect. Friendly and helpful and completely without fuss. The room was beautiful, clean and the bed large and very comfortable; and there were some lovely little touches such as a small chocolate tucked inside our towels on arrival - they'd thought of everything.

The Wolds Retreat is perhaps a little unconventional, being situated in the midst of a practicing buddhist centre. However, we found it to be a very interesting and open environment. The grounds are beautiful and extensive - good for walking and picnics, and guests are welcome but in no way pressured to make use of the centre's meditation facilities.

There was a good selection of vegetarian breakfast options. The World Peace Cafe open for half the week is also situated in the grounds and serves very nice coffee and scrummy homemade cakes as well as a variety of light lunches. There are also some very nice and reasonably priced restaurants nearby in Pocklington, where we had delicious evening meals.

We needed somewhere to stay for our western riding and carriage driving at Fairfield Stables near Pocklington. Having searched the internet, we chose The Wolds Retreat which is in the grounds of Kilnwick Percy Hall.

We were NOT disappointed. We enjoyed our 5 nights stay in the Willow Room, and appreciated the cleanliness, decor, fittings, comfortable beds and the tea and coffee making facilities (also the hot chocolate and the biscuits).

We also enjoyed our breakfasts (gluten free bread and soya milk were provided), enhanced by the great views from the dining room, our refreshments at the World Peace Café, our walks in the grounds, the tranquillity, the bird song, and the friendliness of Deva and her colleagues.

The Wolds Retreat was perfect for our morning horse activities which commenced about two miles away, after which we had pleasant visits to nearby Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum, Burton Agnes Hall and Gardens, Flamborough Head, Sledmere House and Gardens, and Middlethorpe Hall Gardens.

All in all, our break was superb.

I stayed at the Wolds for 2 nights every week between Sept - Dec 2009 whilst attending a local College and thoroughly enjoyed my stay, felt relaxed & rested.
The rooms & suites are spacious, well decorcated in a traditional style but with contemporary fittings, provided with radio alarm clock, kettle & a range of drinks & biscuits - the beds are very comfortable.
Breakfast is provided in the main Georgian house in a dining room overlooking the garden & a choice of mealtimes & menu is provided. The fare is very good & cooked to individual requirements - this is the first B&B in my expereince where the staff endeavour to cater for complex diets without being fazed - I needed a gluten free vegan diet and they provided special bread & biscuits & asked questions if in doubt.
The grounds are stunning - from a lake, an enclosed garden to woodland - and worth the time wandering around - very relaxing & destressing. Nature is everywhere & during my visits the heard Barn & tawny owls, saw bats, grey squirrels, numerous garden birds, a red kite ... oh and Trevor the turkey.
The attention to detail, the interest in you, every effortt to ensure a relaxed, enjoyable & peaceful stay and the friendliness of the staff - Deva & Chudy - and the the volunteers staying at the retreat makes this B&B a special place & miles ahead of other B&Bs.

A group of us travelling from York stayed here because it's close to the Pocklington KP Golf Club - just 5 mins walk away. We weren't expecting much in the way of luxury however we were suprised by the quality of the accommodation. If you need accommodation while visiting KP Golf Club then this is the place!
