“Fantastic for a wedding but one or two concerns”
Reviewed June 21, 2011

Stayed overnight after a wedding reception. Lovely location and staff were really friendly but overworked and not enough of them. Stayed in room 17, single room clean and tidy with a massive bathroom but a few concerns regarding the plumbing! Hot tap would not turn on and a rather strong smell in the room despite a plug in air freshener which was just overpowering for a bedroom £65 a night it should have been better . Pot Holes Galore in the road leading to the hotel, Beware! Come on Rowley this is the first impression!
However if you are planning to stay at Rowley it has more positives than negatives and it has a peaceful relaxed feel and almost perfect for a wedding. love the brown room. Pity about the small overgrown garden feature near the church its in need of TLC and would be lovely for wedding photographs.

I stayed here last month as we had our wedding here. It is a truly gorgeous location but unfortunately the staff and service really let it down. The night before our wedding a friend and I tried to order from the menu but pretty much everything was unavailable, in the end I was told I could have plaice as long as I didn't mind it actually being cod. I was awoken and kept awake by the moving of furniture during the night as they had left it until then to set it up for the wedding. During the next day the completely wrong starters were severed to 30+ guests as I was told the chef had mistakenly made Salmon gateaux instead of prawn cocktail, an easy mistake to make I was told as we sat down for the wedding breakfast.
Guests were booked into the wrong rooms despite looking at them and booking them on previous visits and another brides wedding dress was brought into our room the morning after the wedding before we had packed or checked out, nothing like feeling you are on a conveyor belt. Many other things were just not done, the whole affair was as though the staff could not be bothered and we were just another group of people in their hotel.
I would recommend this hotel if you are prepared to put all the effort in, have a good sense of humour and want to feel a bit like you are in an episode of Fawlty Towers.

This is a true "country house hotel" as the title suggests. The hotel is situated near the tiny village of Little Weighton in East Yorkshire, with nowhere to go to without a car other than walks around the grounds. Escapism is the key - it is away from the rest of the world.
It is a small hotel, with super friendly staff who treat you like old friends, whilst giving you the space and privacy you appreciate. We went for one night and stayed in the bridal suite which really is a huge room, full of a range of antique furniture including a huge 4 poster bed. The room had a national trust-type country house feel - not modern in any way - from the radiators, to the lamps. Huge en-suite bathroom with big corner bath - lovely!
The food in the restaurant - both evening meal and breakfast - was stunning. Very good indeed.
The grounds are really nice, with a lovely little church thrown in!

Room Tip: Well worth having a meal in the restaurant.

Once arriving at Rowley Manor we were instantly hit by the tranquil country location and the friendly atmosphere. The big open fire places and the pretty flowers really made you feel welcome. We arrived after what appeared to be a wedding on the sunday (which looked wonderful) and the staff had the place turned round in an hour back into a suitable sunday lunch venue.

The menu its self was very pleasing, i've read a review below saying how there was no vegetarian option, well this seems to be ridiculous as 2 of my friends are vegetarian and very much enjoyed their meals!

In terms of the value for money when you look at the venue it seems as thought it will be extremely expensive and snobby, however the price is very reasonable and it feels more like a home than a hotel!

A nice touch was looking out onto the lovely grounds and seeing the horses and peacocks pottering around!

Definitely will stay again!

The hotel was also less than an hour from York which is very handy!

We recently had our wedding at Rowley Manor and we were so pleased with how it turned out. The hotel was excellent from the planning stages of the wedding to the day itself. The staff were really accommodating and went the extra mile to make the day perfect - they even sourced independant suppliers for some of the special things we wanted. The reception room looked wonderful. The meal was absolutely superb - we got half a duck each!!! A number of the guests (myself included) had difficult dietary requirements and they catered for that really well. The waiters were really polite and helpful. The rooms were all lovely (especially the bridal suite). Quite a few guests commented on what a good hotel it was and how helpful the staff were. Rowley Manor made our day perfect!

I stumbled upon Rowley Manor, on-line, when I was trying to find somewhere nice to take a friend for lunch. It looked just the job from their website and I checked out the reviews on TripAdvisor which reassured me too.

Well ... unfortunately it was am absolute let-down.

On arrival we sensed immediately that this was a place that couldn't really be bothered.

It was the 2nd November but there were still Halloween decorations in the half dead flowers on the tables.

The dining room was set out ready for a wedding but they couldn't be bothered to remove the red ribbon bows adorning all the chairs in the dining room where we were eating. It would have taken them all of five minutes.

The fire in the bar area was almost out when we arrived and again they obviously couldn't be bothered to mend it because by the time we went back through for coffee it was a pile of ash.

I am a vegetarian but amazingly there were no vegetarian options on the menu. The chef came up with vegetarian stir fry or vegetarian risotto (much of a much ness to say the least). I went for the stir fry which was dry and bland. I asked for some Soya sauce to try and cheer it up - they didn't have any. We were still trying to make the most of it and followed the 3 course "special" by ordering tea and coffee. Tea comprised a tea bag in a cup together with a pot of lukewarm water. My friend’s coffee was cold too! Our lack lustre lunch came to over £50 including a small glass of wine and a spritzer. Needless to say we won’t be returning.

My friend and I were the only diners and now we can see why.

Plus points:
Beautiful and intimate venue.
An excellent chef, with a varied menu, who takes serious pride in his food. We had the braised shank which was perfection on a plate. Oh, and the smoked fish starter was superb and that honeycomb ice cream and brandy snaps yummmmm
Great to be able to accomodate lots of the guests in the same hotel. Individual rooms, many of which are stunning. The bridal suite is amazing.
Very child friendly, several guests commented on how nice it was to be able to let the kids just run off and know they would be safe as we had the whole hotel booked out.
Staff were very helpful and really went the extra mile to make the day run smoothly.

Negative points
Some of our elderly relatives struggled a litte, there are no downstairs bedrooms and no lifts. The step into the shower can be tricky if you're frail.
Communications in the run-up was a bit hit and miss, i.e it could take a long time to get responses to emails and some strangely got lost. The clerical systems could be improved, we had problems of a room being booked that shouldn't have been and a room being double booked. It also took some chasing to get hold of things like room lists, menus and invoices.

Summary
This is a brilliant place to have a wedding, you'll get a personal service, beautiful food and a great venue. The staff were on top of things so we were left to enjoy an absolutely wonderful day.
