We went to the Chilton as a last minute break. What lovely, helpful staff! There was some refurbishment taking place but staff did their best to minimise any disruption to visitors. The food was good and plentiful. Unfortunately we had to cut our holiday short but we will be back!

They were in the middle of redecorating the reception area, which was half done and smelled of paint, also the light bulb was not working in the bedroom and they could not fix it till the next day, which was too late as we were leaving.

The bedroom was nice and clean and the breakfast was very good, although I would have liked to have had more options with the breakfast cereals as they did not have anything that was not sugar coated, they did not even have any cornflakes.

Might be willing to try it again, see if it is better next time.

just attended my son and new daughter in laws wedding on friday 6th sept. reception room was revamped just the days before and we were concerned that it would not be ready. but staff at chilton knocked themselves out to ensure that it was.
the reception and evening party went without a hitch. chilton staff were brilliant. the food was commented on by all as being excellent and very plentiful. bar staff even got into the party mood by just about putting on an impropmtu show behind the bar and even joining in and dancing with my son. this all added to the evening.
my wife and i cannot thank the staff enough for their efforts in making the special day even more memorable. if you want great venue for a wedding or party with great food, a good sized room, accommodation and dedicated and friendly staff that obviously care then this is the place.

stayed overnight . the rooms were large and clean, bit of noise from the floor above. breakfast huge and tasty.

Room Tip: get an upper floor to avoid the noisy floors

Just returned from a long weekend in and around County Durham and found the Chilton to be a good base from which to explore the area. It was a little further out from the centre of Durham than anticipated - around £12 in a taxi, but as we drove most places this didn't really matter to us. The Chilton is in a nice location, surrounded by fields with a nice garden area to the back and ample parking The pub and restaurant offers a good selection of food and we found all of the staff to be friendly, welcoming and helpful. The rooms, although a little dated, were well enough equipped and the beds comfy. The plumbing is very noisy as are the extractor fans to the bathrooms, and there was a lot of noise on the Friday night due to a wedding party happening in the hotel, with the music on until around 12 and drunken guests shouting to one another down the corridor until 1am which was quite annoying. Other than this, I can't complain. The breakfast selection was great. Would stay again if visiting the area.

Booking in was fairly quick as was my upgraded room as I was not impressed with the first one offered, the second room was on the second floor and was large with a decent sized en-suite, I asked for the tv to be tuned in and this was attended to quickly, the meals at this Hotel where excellent especially the soups, the meals well presented and hot, the service was slow but I was not bothered with that as I wasn't going anywhere in a hurry, I must complement the Management in the fact that their staff are polite, friendly and handle customer relations very well, I enjoyed my stay here and would recommend this Hotel for short breaks.
