I returned from Sandford Holiday Park today (27th Nov 2011), and as with my earlier visit this year, this too was a Sun Holiday. The fact that I returned within the same year should say it all. A lot of reviews here are written by tourer's of which I know nothing. From a static (sun holiday) stand point Sandford is one of the best, holiday park's I've visited (btw I've been doing Sun holiday's years before the recession hit & will be doing so long after ;-), we arrived at 3.10pm and unlike my least favourite site (see my other reviews), the staff let us in, no fuss, this to me indicates common sense (no needless queues or a stampedes come 4pm), and more importantly a sense of organisation, as with all the other statics the setting is both beautiful and peaceful, our caravan: A8 was about 8 years old, but we loved it, the more pedantic, blinkered reviewer would no doubt moan about the wet carpet (carpet clean), and the well used appearance but as a cheap source of accomodation, it was spaceous (8 berther easy), and comfy. Mud can be a problem no matter how much you wipe your feet and no matter how much a cleaner scrubs the carpet the task is nigh on impossible, that's life, personally although A8 is a lot older than X10 (our previous van), I preferred the larger layout and surroundings, the living area is huge by comparison.
The facilities have'nt changed much since our last visit, the restuarant is popular, reasonably priced and more importantly the food is great & plentiful. The chippy has improved but tbh could do with more than one member of staff, using common sense I got there when it opened so waiting was'nt a problem, get there a couple of hours later and you will probably have to wait, common senses really ;-)
The staff were all professional and friendly, as they were last time..
Downers: there ain't much in the way of supermarkets near by (the nearest decent one, a big Asda is on the outskirts of poole), there are a few pubs but again not that close, so mobility is the key, the site shop was supposed to close at 7pm on Friday but I went past at 6pm and it was closed.
£40 upgrade fee ???, get realistic make it £20 and people would probably snap your hands off.
Considering the park is now closed until X-mas, the chippy, restuarant and shop were all reasonably stocked, (I've been to a certain site at the start of the season which had far less).
Will I be going back, yep most definetly.
At present 45 have reviewed this at Very good & Excellent, while 36 have rated it poor & terrible, "My opinion" is that Sandford is an excellent park in a great location, and I certainly would'nt be able to run the park as well as ParkDean do.
