“Sandford Holiday Park "Delight in Dorset"”
Reviewed November 27, 2011

I returned from Sandford Holiday Park today (27th Nov 2011), and as with my earlier visit this year, this too was a Sun Holiday. The fact that I returned within the same year should say it all. A lot of reviews here are written by tourer's of which I know nothing. From a static (sun holiday) stand point Sandford is one of the best, holiday park's I've visited (btw I've been doing Sun holiday's years before the recession hit & will be doing so long after ;-), we arrived at 3.10pm and unlike my least favourite site (see my other reviews), the staff let us in, no fuss, this to me indicates common sense (no needless queues or a stampedes come 4pm), and more importantly a sense of organisation, as with all the other statics the setting is both beautiful and peaceful, our caravan: A8 was about 8 years old, but we loved it, the more pedantic, blinkered reviewer would no doubt moan about the wet carpet (carpet clean), and the well used appearance but as a cheap source of accomodation, it was spaceous (8 berther easy), and comfy. Mud can be a problem no matter how much you wipe your feet and no matter how much a cleaner scrubs the carpet the task is nigh on impossible, that's life, personally although A8 is a lot older than X10 (our previous van), I preferred the larger layout and surroundings, the living area is huge by comparison.

The facilities have'nt changed much since our last visit, the restuarant is popular, reasonably priced and more importantly the food is great & plentiful. The chippy has improved but tbh could do with more than one member of staff, using common sense I got there when it opened so waiting was'nt a problem, get there a couple of hours later and you will probably have to wait, common senses really ;-)

The staff were all professional and friendly, as they were last time..

Downers: there ain't much in the way of supermarkets near by (the nearest decent one, a big Asda is on the outskirts of poole), there are a few pubs but again not that close, so mobility is the key, the site shop was supposed to close at 7pm on Friday but I went past at 6pm and it was closed.

£40 upgrade fee ???, get realistic make it £20 and people would probably snap your hands off.

Considering the park is now closed until X-mas, the chippy, restuarant and shop were all reasonably stocked, (I've been to a certain site at the start of the season which had far less).

Will I be going back, yep most definetly.

At present 45 have reviewed this at Very good & Excellent, while 36 have rated it poor & terrible, "My opinion" is that Sandford is an excellent park in a great location, and I certainly would'nt be able to run the park as well as ParkDean do.

I was apprehensive when booking this break because I was concerned by some of the negative views. We stayed in one of the lodges and it was nice, clean and comfortable, everything worked well. The kitchen could have been better equipped with more cooking utensils etc and the TV only had analogue channels but I consider these minor. The park itself had everything you need with entertainment, shop, children play areas and swimming pool. The location was good as well when exploring Poole and nearby areas.

We upgraded to a Lodge but it was awful. The outside was dirty and unkempt. Not to be put off we ventured inside only to find it shabby and damp. When we complained the staff agreed, saying the lodges were outdated, and put us in a Superior Caravan which was very nice.
The location of the site is good if you're exploring the area Poole/Bournemouth etc.
We found a great Gurkha restaurant/take away less than a mile away that deliver to the site.

I booked a 4 day mid week break via the £9.50 Sun holidays. Then after checking reviews here, I was dreading it. However, both myself and my husband, and our 4 yr and 10 year old sons had a really lovely break. Our caravan was immaculately clean, staff were extremely friendly and efficient. The entertainment areas and the pool were also extremely clean. The entertainment was above the average you normally get at holiday parks. We visited the Blue Pool, which is beautiful, and the boys especially loved nearby Monkey World.

We spent a lovely week in one of the Poole lodges at Sandford Holiday Park. Check in took a few minutes to get to the front of the queue but staff were friendly and helpful. The lodge itself was lovely - like a small luxury flat. It was very clean and well equipped. Just one thing - the doors are on the low and narrow side but as hubby is 6'4, it was just one of those things. The park was very clean, the outdoor play areas looked a little tired but hopefully that's just down to it being end of season. The outdoor pool was closed but the indoor pool was very nice - could do with some more family changing cubicles and can imagine in peak time it would be very crowded. Just one grumble and that was the take away eateries - it took over 45 minutes to get fish and chips on a Friday night. Wouldn't have minded waiting that long had we not been 3rd in the queue with the first person having already been served and waiting on food. The pizza place was also a bit of a mare - completely bodged up our order and being told we'd wait 20 minutes to have to wait 45 minutes and it then be wrong was a tad annoying. The main restaurant was very nice, good food and attentive service. Overall we had a great time and would return.

Just spent 4 days with our 2 grandchildren aged 6 and 12.As others have said it is great for Poole,Bournemulth and beaches. We only used the crazey golf which we all enjoyed the rest of the tme we spent on days out.Our caravan was clean ,well heated, with a great shower .On the whole the site was clean ,tidy and the staff all helpfull.
The only down side was we had to call security 3 times the where children runnning abround late at night. They attended promptly each time. and dealt with them.To Parkdeans credit they rang us at home the next day to they where sorry for what had happened. They have said they will be writeing to us later.
We would go back to the park again.

Nice location near Poole and Bournemouth but tucked away. Decent for a caravan accommodation, all things in working order. Good facilities, bar, entertainment, activities but as always in these places do not eat here very poor quality though not expensive probably overpriced based on quality.

Great to have both an indoor and outdoor pool, fun crazy golf, and bikes that can be hired.

reasonable pub next door for a break away from holiday park atmosphere

Room Tip: All units are not too far from the centre but far enough away not ti hear any noise
