It was neat to see the remnants of pirate times. Campeche is a busy city with a lot of traffic. But walking is easy on the ocean front promenade.

We had a great time wandering through the streets - the houses were colorful, the main plaza vibrant with locals enjoying the day and there no mobs of tourists following a guide. There is a small museum at one end of the plaza opposite the cathedral with a couple of rooms filled with antiques.

If you get a chance, do spend a couple of hours wandering the streets or even better, spend the night - we did and we were totally relaxed for the next leg of our journey.

The wall is ok, but the view outside is not very nice. Better look inside to see the nice houses. Most parts were closed during my visit. No idea why...

When you travel around the caribbean rim, you will find many
similarities as to "walls". Cartagena, Havana, Campeche etc, but still a nice touch, mostly restored and then stroll down Calle 59
which is becoming a tourist oriented pedestrian zone, but still very laid back.

The whole city is amazing. Have you seen "Pirates of the Caribbean" ? well - this is it - the same as it was 300 years ago, wonderfully preserved. This aint DIsneyland: real people live here.
