“A nice old hotel with character”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

The good:
* Fantastic location in the small town of Campeche
* The hotel is quite old and has lovely large rooms full of character
* Staff are very friendly and helpful
* Welcome drink on arrival
* Free, good quality wifi

The bad:
* Bathrooms not very well lit
* Breakfast not very well explained in English

Conclusion:
You can see from my bad points that there's not much not to like about this hotel. If anything I thought Campeche didn't blow my socks off, but this hotel is definitely the place to stay in this town.

This boutique hotel is set in a colonial house in the pedestrian street Calle 59, just blocks from the Malecón and half a block from Puerta del Mar and the fortress. Service is incredible, specially Gilberto made everything possible to help us before and during our stay. Patio is nice but it would be nicer with a fountain or some plants.
We had a room with a balcony to the street, beautiful but noisy at times.
We had another room at the ground level which was a bit dark.
Location is perfect, a block away from one of the museums, the main plaza, local ice creams, several restaurants...
This part of town is beautiful and very well preserved. Very much worth a visit. Calle 59 is beautiful.

This boutique hotel is in an historic building with exposed beams, tiled floors and even stone columns in the central courtyard. The location is excellent if you're visiting to walk around the world heritage listed old town. The hotel is in the nicest part of town. The rooms are spacious (with huge bathrooms) and the beds are big and comfortable. The wifi is free and it works. The hotel has an arrangement with a parking station so you can park a few minutes walk away. The street was pedestrianised when we visited (there was a sculpture exhibition in the street) and the hotel was very quiet. The breakfast was OK if you like cooked food but a bit lacking if you don't. I asked for an espresso and was given a filter coffee in a short cup (why? If you can't deliver something just say so). Also, the breakfast specials were all supposed to come with fruit and breads but didn't. When we queried this we were told we could have them if we wanted?!

We only ate dinner at this hotel unfortunately. Courtyard was quiet, which was good. Furniture lovely, ambience fantastic and dinner was super. Although I had ordered the steak I received the prawns BUT I did not complain but ate them and enjoyed them! We had intended to return so that I could have the steak but circumstances were that we were unable to do so. Que lastima!
We were staying at the Castelmar Hotel but on reading the reviews for this hotel I know that we will stay here if, hopefully we return to Campeche ( which I would like to do).
I like too that the proprietor responds to the feedback which is very important for returning clients, especially if like us they have travelled as far as Scotland.

Room Tip: Unfortunately did not stay here but hope to next time.

A very good location in beautiful Campeche, in the old town just a block from the main plaza. We could walk to everywhere we wanted to go. The casa has been delightfully renovated with quirky charms - little sitting areas in unexpected places, a small but inviting pool, a rooftop jacuzzi, a small tower which was used as a lookout in the old days, wonderful view over rooftops to the cathedral particularly at night time with everything lit up. We only ate Continental breakfast but it was good, and as the morning we left we had an early departure we asked if we could have breakfast early, which they had ready bang on time. Bedroom was comfortable, in traditional style, with a spacious shower room.
