Pros: Good location across from water with parking. Two blocks walk from historic center. Has large pool. Bathroom had bath mat and hand towel as well as bath towels. Staff at front desk very pleasant and speak some English. Our newly upgraded room was large. Comfortable beds. 4 English language stations on tv. Very clean. A/C worked well but was not necessary when we were there.
Cons: No free internet for guests.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the newly decorated rooms.

Very clean, great service, friendly staff, fair price. It is not a luxury hotel, they just renovated it and guess they still have some work to do, but this was not ennoying for us. Great ocean view at our room, beds well done, hyper-clean bathroom, free wi-fi. However, you will need to ask for ice at the restaurant and there is no place to keep it. At the restaurant, prices are also fair, there is good service, but we didn't like the food as much. Very clean pool area and nice garden.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a room in the renovated area :-)

Our room was, well, moldy. The closet was dirty. The bathroom was a disaster.
The breakfast was inedible and expensive. The bar had no ice or beer. The pool area was dirty.
I know it was nice at one time- but not any longer.

Room Tip: Take a good look before you stay there.

I'm sure this was a beautiful hotel once upon a time, but during my stay in Oct 2011 this place was a disaster. The parking lot was deserted, barely a car, we had to ask if they were even open for business. My room was a mess, almost looked as though someone had taken a nap on the bed spread. The room hadn't been used in a long time and was very musty. The towels were all frayed and covered in stains. The shower was very grimy. The AC did nothing in the room. Very disappointed.

Beautiful hotel right outside the historic old town of Campeche. Make sure you aks for a newly renovated ocean front room. They’re actually more like a suite in size and interior, wonderfull huge king bed with tons of pillows , big clean bathroom, free wifi in the rooms and the view of the Gulf and the promenade is really beautiful. Make sure you get to watch the sunset from your balcony..I never understand the hotel stars in Mexico though, as the Baluartes “only” has 4 stars - though it deserves 5 in my mind and the size and interior of the room can certainly live up to those of the resorts in Cancun. The Baluartes is a perfect choice when in Campeche, you just walk a minute or two, through the old town gate and you’re in the historic center.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for an oceanfront room with balcony, as those are the newly renovated ones, more l...

I spend two nights in this hotel with my school travel group. We had a very nice room, a suit with ocean view. The staff is very helpful and nice, the food is excellent and the city is amazing. You can speak with the local people and visit a lot of things.

This was the most disappointing hotel of our tour - although it was adequate so I don't want to be too harsh. It is very much a tower of rooms with no atmosphere at all. Our room had everything it needed and was clean and comfortable but it was tatty and tired looking. Breakfast was late starting and even then was not really ready - but was adequate once we got it. I've rated this as poor but it falls somewhere between poor and average really.
We arrived here late and left early next morning so I did not get a good look at Campeche which is a shame but we did have a good meal in the town where there was a choice of restaurants
