We were on our way from Napier to Gisborne and wanted to spend a day at Lake Waikaremoana on the way, so decided to stop one night at Waihua and one at Mahia, both booked at the I SIte office in Napier. We could have spent days at Marie and John's, the facilities were wonderful - a separate residents' lounge which was huge and we had to ourselves, the use of a computer in the lounge, very comfortable beds, a nice little station with kettle and treats, and a glimpse of a beautiful terrace. The situation of the house was lovely. And very reasonably priced. I don't think it was particularly out of our way to Gisborne. The only downside is that there seem to be very few eating places - the food at Sunset Point Sportsbar is good if you like chips with everything, but it is very expensive for what it is.
