“Great find...”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

Just arrived back from a weekend at Monkhouse Hill with a group of 12 girls, we had Cloven Stone and Brae Fell cottages and they are just lovely.
Loved the old style building with the cute little windows, exposed stone and beams mixed with a modern touch of an upside down style property (bedrooms downstairs & living area upstairs) and great decked balcony and hot tub. Hot tub absolutely made the weekend!
The cottages are well equipped with plenty of good quality plates, glassware, everything you need to cook or entertain, quality appliances - dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine. Everything is provided apart from food (ie wshing up liquid, hand soap, dishwasher tablets etc) We also had use of the North Lakes Spa which is well worth a visit.
Monkhouse Hill had a relaxed feel to it by the owners, nice touches like local cakes proivided upon welcome. All in all a great time was had, many thanks for a memorable weekend :-)

We had such a lovely stay at Monkhouse Hill and would definitely recommend it.

Away from the hussle and bustle of the main "touristy" parts of the Lakes, but near enough for a spot of sightseeing too, Monkhouse Hill is a tranquil little piece of luxury where you can really relax.

We stayed in Round Knott and it was a lovely size for us (Myself, Hubby and our 1 year old daughter). The cottage was really clean and we were even welcomed with a scrummy Afternoon Tea! There was plenty of everything you might need (cutlery, crockery, pots and pans etc) which made cooking in rather than dining out really easy (this was our first family holiday and we cooked more than we ever did when it was just us two)!

Round Knott has a private hot tub on the balcony and the views were just beautiful, it meant we could really chill out when little one went to bed.

We used the pre-arrival ordering service too, ordering the village hamper (which was yummy and meant we didn't need to bring too much food with us) and lots of baby things (which really took the pressure off packing - plus everything was really clean and in great condition when we got there which we were so pleased with).

Overall, Monkhouse Hill is great place to holiday - really family friendly but not "in your face", you could easily come for a romantic getaway and not notice any kids! We had a fab stay and hope to saty again in the future.

we stopped in Raven Howe cottage for our honeymoon & it was fantastic, great surroundings & nice people, great accommodation & we will be defiantly returning at a later date. The hot tub on the balcony was great & really made our honeymoon so much better, the cottages are very private & just a short drive away from local town & only about 20 mins from Keswick. would defiantly recommend 100%

We stayed at Raven Howe for a week in May 2012. There was plenty of room for us and our 3 year old son although the living area may have been a bit small if 6 adults were staying in each night (we spend our days out exploring and stayed in & cooked dinner each night at the cottage).

The cottage was very clean, well equipped (dishwasher, washer/tumble dryer etc) and nicely decorated and the owners were very friendly. There was a thoughtful welcome tray on arrival which included lovely home baked cakes and a pint of milk and bottle of wine in the fridge! There was even a supply of Eco friendly dishwasher tablets and cleaning products on hand.

There is a small play area for children with a climbing frame and swing which was useful and you get free use of the spa at an hotel only 10 minutes drive away which we used a couple of times although we enjoyed the hot tub on the balcony too.

Our pre-requested boxes of toys were waiting for us on arrival and our son was delighted with the Bob the Builder set & we ended up having to buy him his own 'Rolly' when we got home.

It's a lovely setting and we would love to go back again.

I recently got married at Monkhouse hill and I have to say I could not have picked somewhere more perfect, the owners were fabulous and helped us with everything we asked including suggesting local caterers, florists, djs and many more, as we are not from the area this was extremely helpful. They were very accommodating and helped us in making our wedding weekend perfect. All of our family and friends stayed with us at Monkhouse hill and everyone of them had only nice things to say about the cottages, so much so that some of them have booked to stay again this year. The cottages were beautiful and the location made for perfect pictures and a beautiful view for our guests to admire. The best thing about having our wedding at Monkhouse meant we could make a weekend of it, our guests arrived on Friday and did not leave till Monday and all our guests were able to stay together on one site. I would highly recommended Monk house hill to anyone considering getting married in Cumbria it is an idyllic location, and would highly recommended it to any family, couples or larger groups looking for a short break away. It truly is 5* accommodation.

We stayed at Chapel Beck cottage at Monkhouse Hill based on the fantastic reviews and its close proximity to the fantastic Old Crown in Hesket Newmarket just a few miles away and the surrounding local area; we were delighted to find that it lived up to every expectation we had and more. The cottage was clean, impeccably decorated with modern amenities whilst maintaining the rustic character of a country cottage... the mince pies and mulled wine provided on arrival were a really nice touch too!

Chapel Beck is a superb cottage for a couple to spend a few days, the bedroom is stunning and the Steam Tub and Sauna brilliant and the log burner in the living room a real feature....the whole cottage was a delight to stay in and we couldn't recommend it highly enough

Both Andy and Jennifer made us feel very welcome and were more than happy to help us with any inquiries we had during our stay.
