Coming to the Land of the Loon resort feels like coming home. The Greenings and their staff provide such personal caring service that I always feel like one of the family. The accommodations are beautiful, lakeside, and welcoming, and the dining room is stunning, with creative, delicious, and local fare. The lake is one of the jewels of the lake country - the call of the loon never far away. Thank you for such a beautiful stay, in every way. This is the one place I recommend to all of my friends, and they are never disappointed.

Room Tip: the small cabins are our favourite (cosy, view of the lake); the lodge rooms and larger cabins are also comfy and surrounded by spruce

We found the accomodations clean, quiet, and a pleasant getaway from busy city life. We also ate at the restaurant and enjoyed the quality gourmet cooking.(if its busy it can be a little wait) The staff were helpful when we needed anything, and went the distance to help us with our requests. (ie. toilet paper, an extra frying pan for the kitchenette, more coffee)

I stayed at land of the loons a first time with my wife, and came back a second time with some friends because we enjoyed our first time there so much. We were thoroughly pleased with our stay at the bayside cabin which has a nice little deck near the water with a barbecue, and a warm fireplace inside. The bayside cabin also came with a canoe which is a nice addition to the outdoors experience.(you get a barbecue, but not a canoe with the chalets)

For us the experience of a little quieter relaxed atmosphere was really great, and if you want more amenities such as a movie theatre, then you can drive 20 minutes into Prince Albert National Park(you have to buy a park pass) to Waskesiu. There is however a small store right close with some essential summer commodities such as ice cream treats and is open during regular hours in the summer. When we needed syrup for pancakes, we were in luck there. (however you should come prepared with groceries, and not expect a Superstore)

You will enjoy your stay here if you like to fish, and can appreciate a generally quieter laid back setting in beautiful Northern Saskatchewan. In my time there I saw some wildlife: squirrels, a beaver, a deer, even a black bear on the drive, and of course some loons in the water. Its true that some of the roads are in places a little rugged, but hey you're in Northern Saskatchewan.

I noticed someone complaining in a review that the lake water was dirty. Well for one its not that dirty, and for two it is in fact lakewater. It is a little telling about the kind of person who would gripe about this, I mean do you expect the resort to treat a large natural lake with chlorine? Its called an ecosystem - not a swimming pool in Florida. Land of the loons is for people who can appreciate an authentic quiet Northern Saskatchewan experience.

Room Tip: Recommend the bayside house.

Do not go here, ever.

In the summer of 2011 my family and I stayed at Land of the Loons Resort and Conference Centre. After looking closely at their website and talking with them on the phone we decided that we would book a multiple-night stay. It was an eight hour drive.

We were extremely disappointed with every aspect of our stay, so much that we left after one night and paid a very hefty penalty.

If you do not own a 4x4 truck, the roads in the resort are nearly treacherous. Huge ruts and potholes riddled the roads and were in great need of grading.

We thought we were lucky because we got a “newer” 2-story chalet but in reality we were nothing but disgusted and disappointed. The outside deck was totally filthy and upswept. The deck table was very dirty and on it was a can full of old cigarette butts. Hanging from a beam on the deck was a “figure” made from bones, which totally freaked us out. The main door lock was only a keyed passage with one screw and with no dead-bolt that could be opened with a credit card. Many of the windows were did not lock and all of the windows were filthy and some had ripped screens. There was no land-line phone in the chalet and our cell phones did not have service. This is a frightening situation. There was zero in the way of security for us and our belongings. Also, we were not allowed to have an outside fire near our cabin even though there was no fire ban.

In the living room there was a broken lamp, the shade totally fallen off from its fastening. For a cabin that sleeps up to eight people, there was only room enough for three people to sit in the living room. Inside the fireplace there were used tissues. All the floors were unswept, even though they claimed to have just washed them.

In the kitchen area there were cob-webs hanging over the stove and counter. The stove top element catch basins had burnt food left in them from previous guests causing a lot of smoke when trying to cook. The toaster had old crumbs on the top. There was only one frying pan, when their website claimed to have pots and pans for cooking.

The bathrooms were totally disgusting. There was scummy grime around the sink faucets and old toothpaste spit on the faucets; it appeared that they hadn’t been washed in some time. The downstairs shower had very little water pressure because the shower head was so clogged up. The tub was not clean. Some of the towels had gross stains on them and smelled badly.

The bedrooms were the worst. A pillow case had old blood stains on it. Also, some of the bedding had hair on it. One of the blankets had numerous cigarette burns.

We had dinner at the restaurant. The table cloth had crumbs on it and the windowsill right next to the table had numerous dead flies on it. The meal was good, but the portions were very small and very expensive.

The beach was gross dirty, dirty sand. There was but one fire pit with garbage in it. We watched the evening cruise come back to shore and upon getting out of the boat an older gentleman slipped and fell hitting his head on the “dock” which was nearly submerged under water. In reality, it was not a proper dock, simply a floating platform. In addition, there was nothing to do at the “resort” if you did not have a boat. There were no nature trails and the lake looked too muddy in which to kayak or canoe.

The store had very little in the way of food, even though we were told by phone and stated in their website, that we would be able to buy food there.

Over all we are thoroughly disgusted and disappointed with every aspect on our stay at Land of the Loons. It was, above all, extremely dirty even though on their website they claim it is clean. From their website, it looks like a legitimate “resort and conference centre”, but it is the furthest thing from any resort and conference centre we have ever stayed at. It is such a shame because with care by the owners, this location could be acceptable. It has potential, but the owners don’t seem to care. There should be a law forbidding proprietors from rent out such fifthly accommodations. Perhaps someone from Tourism Saskatchewan should make a surprise visit so they can update their website and warn the public. Any reviews giving this place an acceptable or even good rating are more than likely false or made up reviews.

Under any circumstances, please do not book a trip at Land of the Loons, it’s a huge waste of your money and a huge disappointment. We feel cheated out of our holiday and ripped-off on many levels.

Umm, well, I think the title "don't go here ever" kinda says it all. WOW! I'm not going to even try and unravel this knot.... clearly this is not a happy camper. This "trip advisor" has really broken it down for everyone. From the crater filled highway, to the crumb littered tablecloths. I will shake off all the tablecloths before I go to bed, but I don't think I'm actually responsible for the condition of the provincial highway system (not.... sure) I will look into that though while I am controlling the weather, adjusting the temperature of the lake water, and wrangling the mosquitoes! :)

Climb the stairs to the 4 rooms over the store. Carpet room clean, poor lighting of room, older lamp on wall looks like one that had been recalled. Tiny bathroom, Quiet, at least in October, good for the price.
Take a flashlight to find your way back from the dining room.
Food very good highly recommend the restaurant.

My daughter and i found the cabins by accident, exploring a side road. We were so pleasantly surprised. The staff went out of their way to make our stay a special one. Our cabin was gorgeous, and the views were peaceful and serene. We spent two days skiing, and never came close to skiing all the trails.
