“Gigante Bay, a wonderful place to stay”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

Playa Gigante is a slice of pure paradise, complete with sunshine, music, surfing and good food. If you want to relax on the beach all day and all night, or groove to the music in the Crobar this place has it all. Staying at the hostel means tons of fun all day and into the night. If you prefer a little more peace and quite head to any of the other four properties owned by Gigante Bay. Each accommodation has a different sense of character, whether you're looking for a suite with your family, a little cabin, dorms or newly finished private rooms.

With so many activities offered and a natural playground surrounding you the days go fast, so plan on staying longer than you think. Great food makes if even harder to part with Gigante.

Just ask John the owner, he's been here for almost eight years and still can't get enough of it. His natural happy go lucky attitude is contagious, a great host and owner.

So get ready folks, once you're here you may never want to leave!

Arrived in Playa Gigante with no reservations and stumbled on this end of the road surf bar/restaurant/hotel hoping we could get a room and a meal. John and his crew were so friendly and welcoming, despite the full bar and dining room that we walked into, and after a few minutes wait we were taken to a very comfy, reasonably priced room just down the way. We returned for a tasty meal in the surf themed, open air bar/dining room. This is definately the coolest overgrown surf shack I've seen on this coast. Next day rented a kayak for a few bucks from these guys and when I returned John, the owner was welcoming me back with a complimentary drink! Turns out that while hanging out and enjoying the view from the beachfront my wife had happened to mention that it was my birthday that day- John has the soul of a true host and his genuine friendliness was a great birthday treat.
Playa Gigante is a little out of the way, but that's mostly a good thing. John and his family and crew made it all memorable.

A friend and I stayed here recently and we had a great time. We planned to stay in Gigante for two days, and ended up staying for five. We stayed in a private room for two, with a bathroom, and we found that it was really comfortable, and with a fan going, a pretty good temperature even without A/C. We did have to specifically request to have our trash taken out and the floor swept, but every time we asked, they were prompt about responding.

The location is great--at the southern end of Playa Gigante, it's in easy walking distance to just about everything else. There's no WiFi here, so it's a nice escape from technology. The patio is a great place to hang out, and there's lots of hammocks and rocking chairs for relaxing. Rental of paddle boards and surfboards was easy and pretty inexpensive ($5/hour).

As some of the other reviews have mentioned, the food here is priced more like one would expect at an American restaurant (about $6 for breakfast, maybe $8-10 for dinner), but the food is delicious. Also, there's lots of other places to eat in town, so the food price is no reason not to stay at the hostel.

Lastly, they had an awesome reggae concert while we were there, and although the music was pretty loud, it was great! The other nights we stayed were pretty quiet, at least past about 10:30pm. Overall, a great experience.

Not all employees are honest about the price, they told us that the prices included tax but no! We also had to pay tip over the room.
Noisy!!! if you like a party place this hostel is nice.. if you want to surf every morning or sleep before 10pm avoid this place. Rooms are on top of the speakers. Dinner wasn't great, $8.50 for a ceasar salad with sort of blue cheese instead of parmesan.. Pasta tasteless.

Price compared to quality not worth it! 26 (and tax and tips on top of this price!!) for a twin share without a bathroom is too much.

We stayed at Camino del Gigante for two nights. Owners seem to manage several properties in playa Gigante so if you arrive last minute and don't have reservations, chances are they will have a bed for you. We stayed across the street from the office/bar and shared a shower with another room. Overall, the property is taken care of and it looked like there is pool being built. Staff are accommodating and attentive. Our room was simple and clean, but the shared bathroom was neglected. The curtain rod was broke, shelves were barely hanging onto walls, and the toilet seat was not bolted down. If you do not have a reservation, this is a fine option, but planning ahead is recommended if you are looking for something above a bare-bones room.

Room Tip: Make reservations ahead of time!

Clean, good, beautiful views, hyper friendly staff and so much to do.
Everything was great from beginning to end, the kinda place you tend to fall in love with.
Only problem I have found is trying to leave this place. Great surf on the near by beaches. Excellent food with dishes that range from a good burger to some more sophisticated cuisine. Place is always clean and the staff is always friendly. You can sail, kayak, surf, climb the Giant´s foot, rappel it down, have3 a walk on the beach and enjoy a fantastic sunset. The town is small and peaceful, the people! They are all so nice. this place is a keeper.

Room Tip: When in the hostel area, the upstairs rooms have a great breeze and overlook the beach. They also h...

This place is what travelling is all about; great people, unforgetable experiences, breathtaking sunsets and a place I can definitely say I will be back to stay! The town of Gigante was one of the most laid back environments I have ever encountered on my travels along with some of the friendliest locals around. $20 private rooms, great food and accomodating staff make this hostel a must stay on your travels to Nica. Que the bon-fire on the beach right out front to watch the sunset in the evenings and this place is what postcards are made of. The owner is a true beauty and solidified this upon the first bon-fire stating "this is the reason why I built this place". Sunset sailboat cruises and boat rides to the Colorodo break set this place apart from anywhere else we stayed in Nica.

Room Tip: Private rooms closest to the beach get the breeze to help cool the room during the night.
