“The best of Guasacate”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2012

We have traveled to the Guasacate area many times over the past 12 years, and we were more than happy that owner Marco found the vision to build this esthetically unusual hotel, with all the amenities usually missing from lodging in Nicaragua. The private bath was a luxury for the girl (me) on this trip, as was the hot water, even though it wasn't much needed. An outdoor shower was available as well, which we used coming back from beach and surfing, right off the back patio through a small gate. An easy walk to the Popoyo break was great. The housekeeping/cook/day crew were sweet and helpful, and Marco the owner made the transaction easy and professional. Rooms were available with a/c, for add'l $. Icing on the cake was the night security, a locking closet within the room for valuables, a large room big enough to house a large quiver of boards and a firm king mattress. And the coolest design you've ever seen in a building. It's worth the trip just to stop by and have a beer in the kitchen, and check out the staircase to the room upstairs (which has a fabulous balcony). One of our best stays anywhere, in or out of Nicaragua.

We stayed here for a week and it was great. The place is right on the beach, and definitely the cleanest of all the options. The staff was great, always taking care of us and making sure we were always fed and had a drink in hand. They even went out of thier way for us to have a sushi night!! They have AC if you want and wireless and TV. The staff will make you waffles, bacon cheese burger, taco's, pasta. They pretty much will let you make the menu if you like, or chose from thier options. I would recommend them over any other option in Popoyo. Space is limited so booking ahead might be a good idea. We did not, but felt we had good timing.

We found the Melting Elefante while searching for some cold air conditioning which is scarce around the surf spots on the beach. Our room was spacious and had very cold AC, well laid out with a king bed, check the surf from bed! balcony right on the surf and ARTISTIC! The building is a work of art in itself, and Marcos the owner is helpful and ready to point you in the right direction for good waves and things to do (or not to do). Staff were pleasant always with a ready smile. We enjoyed our couple of days here immensely and we will be back! Thanks!

Room Tip: Top room with king bed.

The entire experience was outstanding. The hotel was quaint, the owner and staff went out of their way to accomodate every wish and desire. The beach was fabulous and the surfing great. Can't ask for anything better. And the price was out of this world... the biggest bang for the buck imaginable

Room Tip: All 3 rooms are outstanding at the price and location

Stumbled onto this place looking for waves. Good people, good place, good surfing. Very comfortable, clean, and good (chill) little community (Popoyo/Guasacate). Right on the beach, surf shop conveniently located across street, several decent restaurants in town. Definitely one of the best places we visited. M.E. takes plastic but there isn't an ATM nearby so bring some cash to town.

Stayed here with my brother and sister-in-law, and all of us agree this is the place to stay!
Cold rooms, cold Tona, what else can I say! The owner Marcos is more than helpful in giving advice on the surrounding surf spots, he knows the area well and can tell you where to go for beer, pizza, even rent a motorcycle. The staff is friendly and they can cook up a good breakfast, lunch or dinner! Definitely will be staying here when I go back.

showed up to popoyo with no plans of where to stay. checked a couple places and nothing compared to the elefante! the owner marco is chill, really informative, and helps you have the best time whether surfing, eating, drinking, or just laying around in hammocks he has this place down. the house is also the sickest house in all of popoyo hands down. his staff cooks up anything you can think of for those long beach days.
if i had 4 hands, it would get 4 thumbs up!!! aloha.

Room Tip: the master suite upstairs is awesome.
