“A great experience”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

It was many years since our previous visit, so we read a few reviews before we came here this time and ended up not being sure what to expect as they seemed to be a mixed bag. I don't know whether we struck it lucky or whether things have improved recently, but am pretty sure it's the latter. I went for a good slow stroll around the resort and it seems to me that the owners have ploughed a lot of money into updating things. Sure, if you look hard enough you can see the signs that these are old units, but in my opinion most of them look fresh and modern, and I think it would be sad if anyone was put off staying there by the reviews that accentuate the oldness and tiredness of the place - the owners are obviously working on that and I expect that things are likely to get even better as time goes on. And setting of course is idyllic - it seems that most people are agreed on that point! We stayed in unit 1, and the biggest fault we could find was an old, faded, picture of the area in the toilet - in other words we were pretty happy with it.

I rarely get up North so it's likely to be a few years before our next visit, but I have no hesitation in recommending Pacific Rendezvous to people who are looking for a place to stay in that part of the country.

Thank you for your positive comments
We do not deny the complex is 40 to 50 years old and have tried to keep it in good order.
My wife and I have been managers of Pacific Rendezvous for 15months and during that time there has been an enormous amount of effort, time & money spent by ourselfs & owners improving the complex. There is also a lot of effort making sure motel users have a clean, comfortable stay and go away enjoying the experience

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at Pacific Rendezvous Motel
Hope we see you in the near future

Kind Regards
Paul Gilhooly Manager

We visited the gold coast for a holiday it was so full on come back to NZ to have a couple of day to unwined with the kids at this beautiful location, originally from the far north which is also beautiful but had never been to Tutukaka which was amazing, we took the kids for an adventurous walk accross the way to the light house, some awsome views there. We stayed in unit 20# which was lovely nice and tidy, and spacious, we had a view of the marina, and we were right by the track down to the beach, went kayaking which kayaks were supplied kids loved it, playground, trampoline, spa pool, swimming pool, games room and old fashions wood bbq, also grounds/gardens were well looked after with lots of native plants around the place, what more could you ask for, we totally enjoyed our stay and it was lovely to just kick back and relax with our amazing view, most of all the welcoming from the staff and friendly sense of humour was top notch. thank you so much and we'll be back

We stayed in unit 23 for one night, glad that's all it was. The views, location and the grounds were fantastic but this particular unit was very tired and in need of a revamp we put up with it for one night. The furniture especially the sofa was pretty old and knackered, the outdoor table and chairs were rusted through and we did not dare sit on them. The carpet was a mess and bleached in various places from stains. We had ants in the kitchen and living area. The shower needed updating and the shower head could have done with a good clean. The staff were very helpful when we checked in and let us check in early, we maybe should have mentioned we were not happy with the unit when we arrived though, but we did mention when we left and we were told the apartments were individually owned and was in need of a revamp, they suggested other units which had been updated for next time. It's a shame they're not all to the same standards as that's what we're thought we were booking.

Stayed in unit 3 which has had a makeover, couldn't fault the place, we also looked at some other two level units which had better views but only from the bedrooms which is great if you're going to spend a lot of time up there ;-)

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in mid-September 2012. We had unit #9, a two-level apartment for 3 people. The grounds were immaculate and the staff extremely friendly, but mostly, the view was absolutely incredible. From our room we could see Poor Knights Island and had a sweeping view of the harbor and bay. We have traveled a lot to some beautiful places, but this view topped them all. I highly recommend Pacific Rendezvous.

It is worth noting that there are no restaurants or stores within walking distance, but the trade off is peace and quiet. Shop on your way in.

We were recommended to stay here, and we're so glad that we did. We got a huge apartment, on two floors, with loads of space and great views, in a very quiet and peaceful location.

The staff were just so helpful too, when we checked in (late) the manager gave us recommendations for where to go for dinner (Snapper Rock - it rules!), there was never a problem when we needed extra towels for going on the boat to go diving, and when we checked out they gave us loads of useful tips for when we got to Rotorua (the place we were going to next).

I agree with the other reviewers who say that Pacific Rendezvous is starting to look and feel a bit dated, and while that is true the owners are trying to do something about it (the old-style TV was replaced by a flatscreen during our stay) I can't say that it detracted from the enjoyment of our stay here.

If youncan get past the decor being dated it's worth staying in this great location. Such beautiful views and lovely grounds.

Room Tip: As far as I can tell all the rooms had views, our pick was out the front looking over the ocean.
