Owner description: An icon on Northland’s horizon, the Poor Knights Islands are both a complete Marine Reserve, and a Nature Reserve. The Perfect Day’s half-day cruise takes you snorkeling, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding in sub-tropical waters, sightseeing into the World's largest sea-cave and through spectacular arches. With a dramatic volcanic backdrop and turbulent Maori history, teaming schools of fish and bird life, this is a day you will remember for the rest of your life.

“A Perfect Day cruise”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

We had no plan for physical activity on this cruise except to enjoy the outing. However as we stepped onboard the Perfect Day in Tutukaka we were convinced to take a wet suit each and at least do some kayaking - so we did! The seas were calm, the commentary from skipper Luke was excellent and the rest of the crew (Darren, Jo, Tahlia and Jimmy) were friendly and always helpful. Lunch (sandwiches, fruit, tea, coffee etc) was nicely prepared and very tasty. The boat was set up with all facilities (showers etc) and catered for snorkelling and kayaking.

We paddled from the Perfect Day to and into the Rico Rico sea cave, the world's largest - enough exertion for the day! The scenery was spectacular with many huge sea arches to pass under, the fish life was bountiful and colourful (as seen on the TV in the main cabin).

Put this excursion on your "must do" list. As for us, next time we will be prepared for snorkelling!

“It really was a Perfect Day . . .”
Reviewed January 22, 2012

The crew on the Perfect Day did everything they could to really make it a perfect day right from the get go. We have an anaphylactic child with us and they were more than happy to include him in the day - nothing was a problem. They even asked the crew to not include nuts or eggs in their own food or have them for breakfast. We also had to bring all his own food on board and they were more then happy for that and to store it.
We got lots of information on the whole trip starting from the moment we boarded. Nothing was a surprise, we all knew what to expect so anyone who was a little nervous would have been happy.
We came across a huge pod of dolphins mid-way and we sat with them for a bit. Once we got to the Poor Knights it all happened remarkably easily and our whole group was in the water quickly. They had noodles for those less confident to lean on plus life-jackets. And you didn't have to swim far as you could easily stay in reach of the boat and see plenty.
Nothing seemed any trouble - the lunch was great and endless and those who were seasick were well-looked after. Also there are showers on board for those who get chilled after snorkelling.
After the snorkelling finished, we went into the worlds largest sea cave and again got some amazing information. Then we got some history of the Poor Knights island as we went through the southern arch.
I would recommend anyone who can get to Tutukaka do this trip - it is such an amazing adventure and it will be talked about by our family for years.
