“Beautiful Hotel at a good price”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

The hotel is beautiful, a bit off the beaten track which is why I chose it but was quite central to explore Somerset. The weather was freezing but our room was warm and pleasant. The food was great both for breakfast (lots of choice) and the evening meal we had was superb. The staff on the whole were friendly and helpful but felt that some of the reception staff could have been a bit more approachable. The only glitch in our 4day stay was that there was a wedding on the Saturday and the noise from the disco was very loud but at least it did stop by 11pm. It would have been nice to be warned and perhaps a choice of room that was further from from the noise. Having said all this I would certainly stay again.

I bought a groupon voucher for a day in this "spa" plus lunch for me and my girlfriend, and no wonder why it was so cheap: not a real spa and worst food in the area.

The "spa" was really only a gym with swimming pool and 2 saunas (dry and wet), and you needed to cross the whole gym to go to the saunas, which were at the opposite end of the swimming pool, no better than any gym with swimming pool and sauna except for the views, which were nice.

After some time in the "spa", we went upstairs for what I expected to be a nice meal, which would have fixed the day and would have given a good value to the groupon voucher. They sat us in the main restaurant, which was old fashioned decoration, but elegant.
My surprise was when they brought the "bar menu" to us, which only included a few sandwiches, pasta, or small stakes for an extra. We ordered the chicken cibatta, and it was one of the works sandwiches I have ever eaten: the bread was old and tasteless, and the filling was cold chicken breast cut in pieces and mixed with an industrial sauce, plus a few rocket leaves, I could have prepared a much better sandwich at home. We also ordered chips with cheese as a side (not included in the voucher), and they were pretty tasteless as well.
To try and fix the meal we ordered desserts: they brought us the real menu (not the bar one), and ordered some deserts at our expense. I ordered what I expected to be a tasting pear based desert, but received instead the most tasteless pear I have ever eaten with a disgusting ice cream ball, and my girlfriend ordered a banana bread and butter pudding, was a bit better than mine, but one of the worst puddings you can find in the region anyway.

The service was OK, and to be honest, if it wasn't for the bad experience of the meal, I would have given a couple more stars to the place, which has a lot of potential if the owners do a few changes, specially in the kitchen (there are lots of nice pubs in Somerset) and doing a more honest promotion. We would have been much better off buying a day pass to a good gym and going to a restaurant (almost any other restaurant would have been better).

Room Tip: I didn't sleep there, can't give advice on this.

Thank you for your recent review. I was glad to read that you found the service you received favorable and our restaurant area elegant. The Groupon offer you purchased was very popular and the vast majority of comments we receive directly have all been very good and complement our facilities, food quality and attentiveness of our staff. The menu and conditions were well advertised on the offer and our website has all the information on the leisure facilities and treatments available which were directly linked to the Groupon offer.

I can only apologise that we did not meet your expectations when dining with us, I have spoken with the general manager and chef regarding your comments and all points will be investigated and addressed as a matter of concern. We pride ourselves on our quality and service and should you have brought your concerns to our attention at the time we would have been able to offer alternatives and rectify any problems on the day, making for a more enjoyable experience.

As part of your package you will have received a complimentary second day pass for full use of the leisure facilities including the fully equipped gymnasium, swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms. Please contact the club directly when booking and we will ensure you an improved experience and enjoyable lunch.

Thank you for choosing the BEST WESTERN Webbington Hotel and Spa, we look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

booked this as a break after wifes Bristol business trip to go to Wells, beautiful facade excellent reception staff and lovely bar area. room was out the back along a narrow corridor, overlooking function room and out to the M5 which wasnt described in details. room to warm which lead to opening windows and constant noise, room okay but had better clean and functional. pool was great and breakfast was poor even by self service standards

Room Tip: if its not the main body check out!!! anything facing the valley will see the M5 and hear it!!!

Thank you for your review and valued feedback. I was delighted to read that you found the hotel aesthetics very pleasing and the staff and facilities excellent. Many of our guests comment on the quality of our breakfast which includes a selection of fresh seasonal fruit, cereals, natural yoghurt, hot items such as grilled bacon, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms and a eggs cooked to order or a choice of omelettes and a selection of cold meats and cheeses as well as haddock or kippers cooked to order, I can only apologise if this was not the case during your visit. I have passed on your comments to the hotel general manager for further investigation and rectification should a full selection of items not been available.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that our website contact page clearly shows the proximity of the hotel to the M5 motorway and also gives directions to the hotel. Most of our guests comment on the favorable location of the hotel overlooking the Somerset Levels and most are pleasantly surprised of the peacefulness of the surroundings.

Thank you for choosing the BEST WESTERN Webbington Hotel and Spa, we look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Very attentive and polite reception staff both on check-in and checking out. Obtained a good deal for half board and three course meal was of very good quality. Breakfast could be better but hits the mark in most respects.

Room was in the courtyard part and although quite small, was very clean and comfortable.

Bit of an issue with the amount of water that comes out the shower head (not enough) but apart from that everything was spot on.

lso, even though it is out in the sticks, very easy to find.

We were very pleased with our night's stay. Our request for a quiet room had been recognised with a room at the top of the hotel.
the bar meal in the evening was fine and we enjoyed the buffet breakfast.
Maybe the hotel is further from the motorway junction than we'd anticipated.
We look forward to staying here again.

On arrival at the hotel there was a problem with our room but this was soon put right by the staff. The hotel staff were very friendly and proffesional. Food in the restaraunt was excellent and the spa was of a high standard. Could not fault the hotel or staff at all.
Only negative comment is that as the hotel is a very popular wedding venue I would check if there is anything on before booking and insisting on a room in the hotel its self not in the courtyard wing if there is.

Room Tip: Main Hotel if there is an event on
