It's easy to drive by this place, distracted by the other well-lit restaurants nearby (like IZI, and the Carousel) but once we found it we were very satisfied with the Asian Fusion menu it offered. The outdoor bar and setting is dark (romantic?). They offer a great happy hour deal, and very attentive staff (but we were the only ones dining at the time). We had ribs and chicken satay for starters, then spinach and tofu, soba noodles and chicken. Very tasty and a nice twist on the standard Indian fare offered in many of the restaurants on the island. Worh a visit.

Have been coming to St. Maarten since 1986 and our dining experience at Satara was one of the nicest dining experiences in all those years. We found the owner and staff to be friendly and competent and the food delicious! It is almost impossible to read the negative reviews and believe they are talking about the same restaurant that we went to. We had 2 couples each with a 10 YO boy and all of us raved about the dining experience. The only thing we can think is that the bad reviews reflected a freak negative event that can happen at any restaurant, especially a new one or that the reviews are fabricated in order to attempt to taint the reputation of a competing restaurant? In either case we can't wait to return to Satara on our next trip to St. Maarten!

I recently ate at Satara and was first of all very impressed with the new menu they are offering. It was great because there is a variety of cuisines to choose from. The Asian beef and potatoes from the eat meets west section of the menu was delicious. I don't know how the chef was able to combine so many complementing Flavors to create a Foodgasm in your mouth. The chocolate rum balls and mango mousse was very tasty. It was also nice of the chef to come out and interact with guests to see if they were enjoying the food. She was such a well mannered easy going young lady. Will definitely be back to try out some of her Indian food off the menu.

Our group of 4 arrived for dinner and had a super delicious meal! The menu was currently "in transition" so some of the items we wanted weren't available, however the chef was very accommodating and managed to fulfill our requests. Our server was very pleasant and helpful. Owner Brian came out and chatted with us and told the story of how he brought his dream to reality and the future plans he has for the menu. It was a great evening of delicious appetizers and entrees! We'll definitely return again!!! Check it out!

We spent a week in St Maarten over Christmas 2012. We ate in several several restaurants on the dutch and french sides and the food/service was uniformly excellent. The one exception was Satara. The decor is really nice and outdoor seating area zen like and serene. Unfortunately the wait staff are also in a zen like state and seem detached and in a trance. Being on vacation we were not in a hurry but the service was excruciatingly slow. There are comfortable cots placed around a large tree probably for a reason! The appetizers were good but several of the main courses were not available and the entrees when they finally arrived were mediocre at best. We were not adventurous enough to try dessert and we found mistakes on the handwritten check which took another 30 minutes to correct-probably using fingers or an abacus to make the calculations! 15% service charge was tacked on though we were only a party of 4. It is sad to see such a waste of a beautiful space and hopefully management will take note of the negative reviews and change things for the better especially with all the competition in the area.
