“Good food but overpriced”
Reviewed February 26, 2013 via mobile

The food here (fish burger & lobster salad) were really good but overpriced. 25€ for a salad. No tap water. Service was nice but infrequent. A large group sat at our table so we didn't have enough room and proceeded to eat food from home. I would have appreciated the waiter helping with that. Enjoyed seeing iguanas and birds there, beach views, and free rum at the end.

“Love Pinel! Love Karibuni!”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

Our multiple trips to Pinel and Karibuni were the highlights of our stay in SXM. We went back to spend our last day on the beach and have lunch again at the fabulous Karibuni. It is highly recommended you catch the earliest ferries to Pinel if you want to have a choice in where you sit, to get a chair and umbrella, and to secure a reservation for lunch. Karibuni is definitely the better of the 2 lunch options. When you arrive at the beach and after securing your chairs, go to the bar and put your name on the reservation list. The service on the beach and in the restaurant was top notch. The food was even better! The fish sandwich catch of the day is grilled to perfection. The ceviche was awesome! Ice cold chardonnay. Most lunch options come with a side salad. At the end of your meal, you are treated to a shot of vanilla banana rum on the house! Really delicious! I see many negative comments on TA about experiences at Pinel and Karibuni. Don't pass up this true paradiso experience. Go early, take your time, have some patience and you will thoroughly enjoy your day.

“Make sure you eat here!”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

We took one trip over to Pinel Island on a Tuesday, and because we loved the food so much at Karibuni, we went back on Thursday! We usually do not repeat ourselves, but made an exception with this place. On Tuesday, we went over a little late in the morning and got there about noon. We were lucky to get a table (reservations are strongly recommended). Had the spare ribs and the fish burger. The spare ribs were about the best I have ever had. They were cooked on an outdoor grill (practically everything is cooked on the grill). The fish burger was a piece of mahi mahi that was done just right. The food was fabulous. Might have even been the best we had on our stay on St. Martin. We liked it so much, we went back on Thursday. My wife loved the fishburger so much that she ordered it again on Thursday. I chose the calamari and pineapple salad. It was wonderful. The pineapple is cut in half and then filled with a mixture of shaved calamari and pineapple. There were other ingredients, but the two major ones were the calamari and the pineapple. The calamari is sushi style (not cooked), but very tender. Just a wonderful combination. The place is only open for lunch. Yellow beach is the other restaurant on the island. Prices are about the same, food not as good. Service was unbelieveably attentive. You eat with a number of finches and lizzards that will entertain you throughout your lunch.

“Horrible attitude”
Reviewed February 17, 2013 via mobile

Went there because it was recommended as better than the other restaurant on Pinel. Arrived at noon. Didn't know you had to reserve chairs in advance. Most of them were empty and stayed empty for long. Decided to have a drink at the bar, as almost all tables were reserved too. 5€ for a very watery OJ. The attitude of the personnel was really annoying. Very unfriendly. Asked where the restroom was, they told me, but it was locked with a lock from the outside. Moved to Yellow beach, we got chairs immediately.

“Tasty food with a side of great service”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

We were recommended to eat lunch at Karabuni's by the owner of the villa we rented on St. Martin and we weren't disappointed. It is located right on the beach of Pinel island, situated underneath the palm trees. You can sit underneath the roof or dine with your toes in the sand underneath the palms. It was the perfect beach bar atmosphere and you can even watch the chef's grill the food while you wait for your meal. My girlfriend and I had the Calamari appetizer which was fresh ,delicious and melt in your mouth tender. For entree's we ordered the Conch Stew and the Shrimp Brochette (skewer) - absolutely fantastic. Our server was attentive, prompt and wanted to make sure we enjoyed our meal and drinks. Well we did and we would def. go back there. Note: It is an expensive restaurant but that is to be expected when dining on the French side of St. Martin - the quality of the food and service made it well worth the price as well.
