Drawn to this place by reviews of the chef and his previous history...... Promised lunch fare included three fish dishes , a meat, and a veggie..... When we got there... four fishy, no meat, no veggie offerings. Disappointing if one of you's a non-fishy "veggie". Food was good and we enjoyed ourselves. One other issue: Pity about the woman serving (chef's Mum??) who didn't seem happy at all - overworked and underpaid, maybe?

We were tired and hungry from long walk in the cold, rainy (but breathtaking) south Cornwall. And we found a proper relief in a tiny place next to the harbour of the small Newlyn, next to Penzance. Tolcarne Inn is a fish restaurant and it offers distinguishing dishes rich in flavour and delightful contrasts. The dishes are both well-presented and the food is present in a decent quantity (often you find the equivalence: beautifully presented dishes and scant portions).
Also the dessert, a “simple” panna cotta was a winning dish.
Dog-friendly, attentive and friendly staff, maybe a bit overpriced (in my opinion, for example, you can really offer the bread as a treat, as a welcome from the chef) but it’s worthwhile!

Have eaten here a number of times when visiting Cornwall on business, the food is excellent. I've eaten at pretty much all the "top restaurants" in Cornwall Nathan Outlaw, the Tresanton, Driftwood etc but for me the cooking at the Tolcarne beats them all, which is no mean feat. The staff are friendly and efficiant the atmosphere relaxed if you're in west Cornwall pop in.

We stumbled upon this inn while walking around Newlyn in the rain, best place we could have gone too, the atmosphere was great and the food was utterly astounding. The best fish I have tasted, nothing was too much trouble, the menu was vast and offered plenty of choice. Would thoroughly recommend this Inn just wish we had one near us in Dorset.

We stayed at the Trereife House and the host recommended us to have dinner in Tolcarne Inn. It was a very smart advice!
Tolcarne Inn is an awesome cozy place at Newlyn. Food list is not that wide but very original and full of local specials. Fish here was really outstanding! Ben cooks really outstanding dishes. Worth visiting when in Cornwall.
