Four of us ate there twice in mid-September 2012. The first meal was very good and the service was excellent. BUT a few days later the second meal was poor and the service was average. The really frustrating thing was that we ordered two particular dishes on both occasions, the first time was fine, which is why we went back again, but these two dishes were totally different and very poor the second time. The restaurant was much quieter the second time and the staff seemed more interested in talking to each other than attending to customers.

Bank Holiday Monday night (Aug 27) my partner Kate and I (Mark) enjoyed a wonderful 2 course dinner - I had mackeral followed by mussels, both from the specials board, and Kate had squid followed by a pizza. We have eaten in many restaurants and can honestly say that here the quality of the food was excellent. The mussels were all good, no waste, presentation and quantity was spot on. Having eaten genuine Italian pizza in Italy, this was just as good. The service was superb too. There were 3 young ladies attending to the bar and tables, they were very friendly, informative as they clearly knew about the food, and made us feel both welcome and relaxed. The only reason we dont give a full 5 star rating was due to poor choice of decent wines and buubles - our bubbles were a little flat! We've missed this real gem on our many previous trips to Newlyn, but we certainly won't be missing it again - well done Ladies, and your team, excellent evening and a big Thankyou. Mark & Kate - Dorset.

We had a table for 10 and found the service good, waitresses very busy but attentive and good humoured. Every table full in the restaurant and it was pretty hot and airless - could have switched on air con which hung idle on the wall for the most part. Food was ok - a prawn, crab, penne thing served in a dish so hot the food continued to cook in front of me - getting even hotter now! All in all the great company made the evening - not sure I'll be rushing back any time soon.

recommended to go by numerous previous tenants of our holiday home. Main meal was good. dessert of basil cream and red fruits was out of this world. Service was polite but nothing special, cooks frequently left the restaurant for a sneaky cigarette! first table was so sticky that we moved to a less sticky one! Overall a nice place to eat during your holiday.

We have eaten here at least half a dozen times previously and despite previously poor service, decided to give it another go, as the food is nice. However, the speed of service is consistently poor. It isn't the waiting staff, of which there are usually too few, it is the time for the food to appear from the kitchen. We had a starter which arrived reasonably quickly but then waited 40 minutes for a pizza, not exactly difficult, and what made it worse was the restaurant was only a 1/4 full, with two waitresses. Also by the time the pizza finally arrived, we had drunk the first bottle of wine so ordered a second, which we probably wouldn't have done had the food arrived quicker, adding another £15 to the bill. All in all, last chance saloon for this restaurant we won't be going back again.
