Description: We're a beautiful 15th century freehouse pub ran by a friendly tight knit team. We pride ourselves on our great quality, delicious pub food and always have a wonderful choice of traditional and local real ales. When visiting the beautiful village of Cerne Abbas take some time to come and sit by the roaring log fire in winter or dine under the grape vines in the beer garden in summer.

we had visited the royal oak last april and had had such a lovely evening we decided to take our parents there for dinner while we were visiting the area to find it was under new ownership,

however we decided to still have our eveing meal at the royal oak and we are so glad we did, it happened to be Nicky the new owners first night and from the moment we waked in we were treated with kindness and a faultess service.
there was a lovely atomsphere in the pub that was not there before, our food was amazing the staff very helpful,
we woud like to thank nicky and her team for making our evening special and if anything like last night was to go on, you have the right mix to make a success of the royal oak.

I have rated this on our first visit, an evening meal, which we throughly enjoyed. The staff were nice, with the young lady especially friendly and helpful. We wanted a nice cosy country pub which allowed dogs in, log fire etc, and it met all the criteria. We can't remember what we ate, but it was very good. We had a lovely evening, so when we visited the Cerne Abbas Giant the next day, we thought we would return for lunch. What a difference! We went to sit down and were brusquely informed (by Brendan?) that the table was taken, so moved elsewhere. We realised that the triangular reserved sign was at such an angle that we had only seen it end-on, hence our error. We came off lightly! Another couple came in and went to sit down, to be loudly asked 'Can't you read - that table's reserved!' What if they couldn't read? I couldn't believe his rudeness, but we then spent the rest of the lunch listening to him moaning. The same young lady was also working - and how she remained so polite and cheerful I really don't know! She must be a saint to put up with him! Again, we can't remember what we ate, but we didn't enjoy it half as much - not sure if it was the food or the atmosphere, but it didn't encourage us to return. So, rated at very good for dinner, but lunch was nil points!!

Recently called in to Royal Oak for lunch with some friends. Welcoming log fire and friendly staff was a good start to the lunch and the food was excellent. Hot and plentiful without being over powering and very good value for money. They do some meals for small appetites which is ideal for some at lunchtime. Shall go back there again.

Although it was quiet when we arrived it soon started to fill up, and we noticed that 'Reserved' labels had been put on most of the tables. This was a Wednesday lunchtime in January. The fires were blazing and the staff were very friendly, offering my mother a 'small-portioned' meal as she can't eat a lot. I do encourage you to look at the blackboard, for the Specials are very good. A very good place to go for lunch if you want character and tasty food.
