“Well worth seeking out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

Citerna's not on the beaten track, you need to drive a dozen or so km from Sansepolcro or Citta di Castello. But the drive is worth it. Within the fortress' ramparts is an oasis of colour and light and welcome and taste that is Le Civette. Beautifully decorated with amusing touches (books scattered around the room and on the tables), the welcome is friendly but not overwhelming. The menu is short and changes (a point to look for in this part of the world if you're thinking of lingering a while and returning to familiar spots). Swordfish was my most recent secondo, truly unusual in Umbria!; nicely and not over- cooked with herbs. The accompanying Arezzo wine Occioli was superb. The panna cotta great. Two course plus dessert and wine for 30 euros is par for the course. The restaurant has been rather quiet in the past but seems well-patronised now; it deserves to be.

“Lovely restaurant in an interesting medieval town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2013

The owner warmly welcomed us in this lovely restaurant in Umbria. The decor inside the restaurant is modern and fun which is nice twist because the outside is medieval. This clever approach is reflected in the creative, very fresh, excellent cuisine. We enjoyed the wine as well. Unfortunately we could only enjoy Osteria le civette for lunch but hope to visit again for dinner so we can sit outside .... within the ramparts! When we were there a large family was celebrating a little girl's first communion; this is a restaurant that clearly loves kids in the middle of the day but is perfect for couples as well.
PS: For dessert try the Pudding ai frutti rossi. Yummy. Everything is yummy.

“Atrange experience”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2013

We arrived at Le Civette and looked at the menu outside the restaurant. The Patronne came out and translated it for us. Once inside, she gave us a different menu. A bottle of beer cost 10 euros. Not good; we did not stay.

“A real find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2013

Great and innovative food that is different from the offering of any restaurant in the area. A slightly more modern touch on Tuscan cuisine still honoring the traditional ingredients. The dishes are a pleasure to the eye and taste buds.

The tables outside "in the city wall" are very romantic with candles in the dark. If you choose to go inside, the interior feeling is a bit Scandinavian but very original with nice little touches. The village of Citerna is beautiful and worth a short walk.

“Great find - eclectic”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013

A total surprise in this tiny village. Sophisticated in an eclectic way - would not be out of place in London. Great food and service - the owner claimed to speak little English but did an excellent job of translating the menu. Simple elegance. A memorable meal in a unique venue.
