“Dissapointing”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

We have been a number of times and had good food there. On this occasion we the meal included beef and mushroom pies. When it came it was not the pie we anticipated, chunks of beef with mushrooms in a thick gravy. The beef was thin slices of what appeared to be left overs from a Sunday roast, the mushrooms were hard and not cooked for long enough and the gravy in the pie was very thin. The vegetables also appeared to have been reheated leftovers.
We should have complained but as it was a last meal before our daughter went to Uni we didn't want to spoil the evening more than it had been.
A poor show and not like the previous visits where the food was basic but good..

Thouroughly enjoyable couple of nights at the Black Dog. We were made most welcome by Steve and Becky. Room was clean and comfortable, food excllent, and a great atmosphere in the pub. As others have said, locals are also very friendly , and happy to include you in conversation
Hope to return soon.

Clean, comfortable, friendly, good food, good ale, good price. Convenient for the Dorset coast and countryside. What more can you ask for?
Lovely bar with open wood fire - conveniengly situated just off relatively main road without suffering any untoward traffic noise.

We only stayed for one night ; but the accomodation was of a very high standard. Excellent food for an evening meal and lovely breakfast. Would definately recommend a stay here! Thank you Black Dog for our lovely night.

Room Tip: Ensuite rooms great, we had one on the roadside, and it did not keep me awake!

The Black Dog Inn's best asset is the friendly atmosphere in the pub where the publican, staff and locals include everyone in the conversation. The room was pleasant and the food very good. We enjoyed our stay there.

We stayed at The Black Dog for one night only (Bank Holiday Sunday) but it was a very pleasant place to stay! The two rooms we had were comfortable, clean and had excellent showers - nothing exceptional but very good value. The pub was very busy during the day with a special event in the outside bbq area - plus live music - and still quite lively into the evening. The hosts (Becky and Ste) are terrific and the breakfasts the next day were traditional tasty and plentiful 'full English' . Highly recommended

This was a short break which was booked with a friendly voice. Upon arriving the staff and owners of the pub made us feel welcome. The room was clean and furnished with towels and crisp linen. The beer was well looked after and the choice was away from the standard choices.
The evening was spent with the locals who made us feel at home. This was a pleasurable pub to be in with genuine people. The breakfast was well cooked but not over cooked. Fresh peculated coffee. If there is a fault to this accommodation it is that it is close to the road and in the morning it was possible to hear the traffic. Our stay was enjoyable and good value for money. A return visit will be made to this friendly establishment when we are next in this part of the country. A credit to B & B.
