“Really great desert escape!”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

We've stayed in Tilal liwa 2 weeks ago. Just came back from a lot of family issues and wanted to have a quite and peacefull weekend. We've taken a weekend in Tilal liwa and enjoyed a lot the weather and the pool. Food was great and with lots of choices. Kids had fun with the lady in the kids area. Desert walk before sunset was perfect. We rented a quad bike and had great photos with the sun and hotel in background. Staff are friendly and helpful. After the kids went to sleep we had a relaxed evening in the bar, the music was good and we liked the band.

We will come back again with our friends begin next year.

I should have done a bit more homework as I thought the hotel was closer to Liwa and the dunes - but anyway, its only 30km.

The hotel itself is lovely, very comfortable rooms with a nice balcony or patio if you are on the ground floor. The pool is nice aswell (but small) with views out over the desert. However, the poolside cafe was a bit chaotic - it took a very long time to order and then for the meals to arrive - in total around an hour! The main restaurant is buffet style although you can order a la carte. We opted for a la carte but the food was a bit average, should have gone for the buffet.

If you can get a good deal then its a nice place to go to relax as there is a very peaceful atmosphere here.

Its a great drive to this place away from the city madness and the resort is small and tranquil. We went during August but surprisingly its not that hot in the middle of desert. We stayed in the pool most of the time though. Not much to do around anyways. Some of dunes buggies werent functional and in limited numbers so some of my friends could not try out the same. The rental was a bit pricey but then this is a resort and the only one around!

The rooms and facilities are clean and in good taste. The Staff were attentive and courteous even though they were flooded with guests the weekend we checked in. They were quite helpful when a friend misplaced his phone.

The only disappointment I have from our stay was the all day dining international restaurent, al badiya i think its called. We were a group of 8-10 and had in room service, dinner and breakfast at this place and each time were disappointed. Its the only restaurent around so its important they keep up some standard. Room service was delayed, food like the hydrabadi biryani and sandwiches were poor. The pasta was saving grace.

At Dinner we opted for ala-carte menu but were only served after 45-50min, mind you this is at 9-10pm which is prime and they are after all all day dining. Repeated requests to get the kid's order were ignored, how long can pasta in white sauce really take? Few orders were mixed up where the server dint know what she was serving and just exchanged sauces on table for the diners! We asked 4 times for a bottle of water which took 30min to arrive. Starters and bread were served without side plates and cutlery being laid out. The mixed grill was hard, scanty portioned and served with a big side of raw onions! I would only recomend the pastas and thai.

Breakfast buffet next morning was not an impressive mix as well, the upma which is semolina based tasted more like coconut savoury and few other dishes were tasteless ! The Chef really needs to work on it!!

All in all me and my friends had fun and relaxing time, please ensure to back your own meals if you have kids as they dont have any options that are good enough!

Room Tip: Make sure you keep repeating double beds..they have a penchant to stick you up with twin beds!! that...

The overall experience was quite pleasant. The hotel was in the midst of the desert with all the bells and whistles one could imagine. The cleanliness was nothing short of phenomenal and the staff was courteous yet prompts in service.

Pool of the hotel, though small, still very enjoyable due to the view of the desert from it, it gives you a feeling as if you are swimming in the open desert.

Staying in this hotel literally means you would have all the meals in the hotel since there are no restaurants in the vicinity. As far as the restaurant’s the hotel are concerned, they are good in term of quality but lack of variety,

All in all, the stay proved to be tranquil and serene and we had great fun on the trip.

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms on ground floor are pool facing and have got private pool beds

Nice hotel in nice location, a long drive from abu dhabi, but very peaceful once you arrive, we arrived in the middle of a sand storm and was told that we could not use the pool, you can imagine that went down well with the 4 kids I was with, in the end we were asked to sign a disclaimer saying that we took full responsibility for our children, mmmmmm yes since the day they were born and till the day I die, but anyway sand storm blow over and we had a very nice stay, food was good and better than I expected, rooms were clean and tidy and service was good.

I apologize for the inconvenient with the temporarily closing of the pool. When there is a sand storm, it is not desirable to use the pool as the wind speed can be very hard and sometimes can carry sun lounges from their places. Since we can’t take any risk with our guests, we request our guests to empty the pool. Normally the storm doesn’t take long and guests are able to use the pool after ½-1 hour later.

Once again, thank you very much and we look forward for welcoming you back at Tilal Liwa Hotel soon.

We arrived there in the afternoon during Ramadan so it was relatively quiet. The room is nice, nothing too fancy or luxurious though (bear in mind that this is a4-stars hotel but to be hobest, it is better than many 5-star ones I've been to..).
The swimming pool is nice but kinda small especially as it gets crowded with kids. It is an infinity pool overlooking the dunes so it's relaxing to linger there and watch (again, when the kids are not around). The thing I liked best about the swimming pool area is that they have hammocks nearby on the grass-- very relaxing to enjoy a good book.
Dinner at the restaurant was below avarage. The staff were no so friendly and the waiter gave us the worst table to sit on (literally inside a TV that was on loud bolume). We asked to change our place to which he said he can't let us sit anywhere else cz this was the only table for 2!!! Not like it was crowded with families and groups of 4+ anyway, there was hardly anyone when we arrived.
The buffet seemed a little over-priced for what they were offeringand we weren't all that hungry so we went for a-la-carte instead. It tool forever (around 45 min) to bring our soup and salad! We ordered fisj and it was okay. Portions are good as well but again the waiter let us down when he did not ask us about our sides and assumed we wanted rice. However when we asked them to change it they left it for us annd brought extra baked potatoes--nice!
Breakfast wasn't great either. The food looked more like legt-overs from the previous night's dinner (veggies were pale, hommus was old and dry) and the variety wasn't great. Service was as slow as usual..
Upon checkout they gave us 2 bottles of water, nice gesture!
It's a nice place and I think is your only option if you want to visit Liwa but keep in mind that it's around a 30-min drive from any civilization so stock up on water and snacks on your way from Madinat Zayed.

I don't really have any complaints about this hotel. It's a decent 4-star place with clean and comfortable rooms, a nice pool and grounds and decent food. We ate in the main restaurant and the food was better than expected with good service. We wanted to sit in the bar afterwards but it was too small and there was nowhere for us to sit! The breakfast spread was good as well, but they were too slow at refilling empty dishes which was dissappointing as if you wanted it wasn't re-stocked until we'd already finished. The location is OK, not too far from the main road and the view from the pool with a great view of the dunes. However - if the hotel is reading this, why do you have the quad bikes RIGHT in front of the pool where people are trying to relax!? And why not tidy up the ugly posts that spoil the desert view? Completely spoils the ambience and a shame as it could be perfect!

Dear Sir, Madam,
Thank you very much for staying with us and for taking the time in writing us your suggestions.

We are constantly checking on areas of improvement and your valuable feedback will not only help us upgrade our services but will also makes us meets our guests’ expectations.

We’re delight that you liked the Hotel and the food. However we regret to hear that the refilling process of some dishes didn’t go as fast as expected. We have taken the needed action and discussed with the Kitchen colleagues to pay more attention for refilling dishes.

We would like to apologize for the inconvenience for the limited places in the Bar. During the Holy month of Ramadan, our main Bar was closed and there for we’ve created a small space to still be able to serve our non-Muslim guests. After the holly month, the main Bar is back in operation with Daily live music.

We fully realize that the main view from the pool to the desert is a unique experience for our guests and it is our selling brand. We try always to keep it clean and tidy. Main challenge is that we’re in the middle of the desert and we face many storms and wind.

Once again, thank you very much and we look forward for welcoming you back at Tilal Liwa
