Just under 2 hours from Abu Dhabi, is the Tilal Liwa hotel. Although it is just outside of Madinat Zayed, there really is nothing around with the exception of the camel race track and some camel farms. Although they were a couple of kilometres up the road. The Liwa Oasis is approximately 50 km south of the hotel We spent two nights here and it was just perfect. Although, it was the middle of summer and hot this time of the year, the hotel was fairly busy due to the Date Festival in Liwa. We were greeted upon arrival by one of the managers, who answered our questions and told us about the hotel. It only has two floors and just over 100 rooms. We had a ground floor room, that was about 20 feet from the pool. It had a little patio with a bench and table, and also had two beach chairs right out in front of the patio in case you didn’t want to lay directly by the pool. The rooms were clean and spacious, and there was fresh fruit upon arrival. The curtains are very good at keeping the light out.
There is one main restaurant, the pool side restaurant, and a bar. The main restaurant has a buffet for breakfast and dinners, but I also believe you can order a la carte. I thought the food on the first night was very good. It was a seafood buffet. The brunch buffet the next day was ok, not worth the price though. They had a different variety of food, from hotdogs to Indian curry, different variety of desserts. The breakfast buffet wasn’t bad at all, with a variety of foods and someone to make the eggs of your choice. That was included in our room rate.
I personally liked this hotel, the pool area was kept nice and clean, and the attendants were friendly. The view from the edge of the pool to the Empty Quarter is beautiful, but it seemed like they left the patio unfinished. There was a small gym, and you can have sisha by the pool in the evening overlooking the desert. We were lucky to be there during a full moon so made it all the more prettier. I will definitely find my way back to Tilal. It’s a nice weekend getaway if you just want to go somewhere and relax.
The staff were always friendly and always had a smile on their face. Even at 7 am when we ordered coffee because we couldn’t sleep and decided to get up for the day. Service always was prompt. There was nightly/afternoon turn down service which was a nice touch.
My one real complaint is there is no covered parking. When you are there in the middle of summer and get in your car after being parked in the sun all day, is a bit rough.
