Antbear was to represent the end of a three week tour of southern africa and was the perfect relaxing tonic in the beautiful Drakenberg mountain range.

We stayed as everyone else does on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis which did have me a little apprehensive as we were staying for three nights and being a real food lover had me nervous as to what to expect. I was so silly to worry.

Antbear houses you in individually built african huts all are ensuite and well appointed, no TV was present but is most definately not missed, why would you watch a TV when your view is so beautiful over looking the distant mountain range, glorious on site farm, exquisite trees and birds and not to mention sunrises and falls to make your mouth drop and starry nights and leave you speechless, I had no idea there were so many stars!!!! As aforementioned, the room was ideal, comfortable and spacious with brilliant furniture made on site by Bruce, what an asset.

Dinner was brilliant, three course meal in an intimate relaxed atnmoshere sitting with the other guests to converse about your days, politics, food, wine, or whatever you might fancy. The food is lovingly prepared all homemade and done so with aplomb if I was going to say anything at all it would be only that I would have loved a few african influences in the cooking. The dining room itslef is beautiful again all fashioned in amazing one of a kind woodwork by Bruce. Breakfast was equally delicious homemade, criossants, muffins or scones, fresh fruit salad, cereal and cooked breakfast to order.

Andrew and Connie are very good hosts offered excellent advice and trips and also offer some hidden treasures too, microlighting for the adventurous and horseriding. All in all the trip was gorgeous and we are so happy we decided to stay at Antbear.

Great location with amazing views overlooking the beautiful Drakensberg mountains. The cottage we stayed in was absolutely fabulous. It felt like a fairytale! Great woodwork made by the owner. The food and atmosphere were excellent. The owner Andrew & Conny made us feel very welcome and at home. I absolutely recommend this lovely place to everybody who wants a unique experience. Absolutely worth every Rand! THNX again Conny & Andrew for the amazing time!

The Antbear was more than I would usually pay for a guest house but I'm so glad I forked out. We had a whole building to ourselves despite paying the lowest rate and the attention to detail was amazing. Andrew and Conny have done it all themselves and are a mine of information about walks and other things to do in the Drakensberg. The meals were good and we met a lot of interesting people. The location is fantastic but be prepared for rough roads.

The website image for the en suite double is the same as the luxury suite, you will pay the same, but boy, you will not get the same. What you will get is a pokey room with a leakey shower, in between the dining room and kitchen. If you're fortunate enough not to get the ensuite in the main house, don't be telling any secrets while having breakfast/dinner if you think you're alone, there are people in the room next door who can hear every word! And if you are unlucky enough to be the ones in the room, forget peaceful privacy. This is one of the most expensive places I've stayed in in the Berg, and I can't justify it.

In a beautiful setting, and close to some of the most stunning views of the Drakensberg, still Antbears' real unique selling points are its incredible rooms, excellent dinners, and fantastic hosts.

Andrew (on his own whilst we were there) was the most useful source of information for our trips around the local area - please don't plan anything without asking him first!

Definitely hope to be back in the future.
