We stayed here for a night during our journey by car from the UK down to the South of France. Of the four hotels we stayed in on the journeys down and back, this was by far the worst customer service we experienced.
The hotel itself is in a wonderful location with large grounds right on the edge of the lake.
However, this is where its good points end. We arrived at 6.00 pm to find that there was nobody in, the owner turned up in his van a few minutes later after we had been looking around to find a way in.
The room was extremely basic with furniture and decorations from the 1950s. We had requested a room with a lake view and we did indeed have a balcony facing the lake. However, to actually see the lake you had to remain standing, if you sat down at the table you could not see over the balcony parapet! All it needed was some decking to raise the table and chairs up a bit and you could have your lake view whilst seated.
The hotel had a large restaurant with windows down one side overlooking the lake. We were met by a very nice young waitress who got us drinks and showed us to our table. We were invited to sit at a table at the back of the restaurant where it was a bit dark. We asked to sit at a round table in the centre which she let us do and left us looking at the menu. She then came back from the kitchen and said we couldn’t sit there as it was reserved, but said we could sit anywhere else we wanted. Out of about 20 tables, there were only 2 others that were occupied. She had obviously been told by the manager, who was cooking in the kitchen, that he didn’t want us to sit there. We duly moved to another table nearer the window. Suffice it to say that, even though 4 other residents came into the restaurant, nobody ever came to sit at the “reserved table”. The menu choice and food was reasonable but the atmosphere was very dull. The restaurant had a great view and a terrace overlooking the lake but it and the bar area were full of the owners personal possessions and clutter and was badly in need of a good clean out and redecoration.
After dinner we had coffee in the bar, served by the same very polite and smiling waitress.
Whilst we were there the owner had 2 very loud disagreements in front of us; one with another guest and one with the waitress. We felt that this was extremely rude and unprofessional. He was equally disgruntled when he served us our very small and basic breakfast the next morning.
We would definitely not stay at this hotel again unless it was under new management.
