“What a delightful surprise it all was!”
Reviewed April 19, 2013

Despite passing the Clatterin Brig dozens of times over the years, we had never stopped. What a delightful surprise it all was. We were there on a Saturday lunchtime and there were a mixture of couples, cyclists, and a family gathering.

The menu is amazingly wide-ranging for somewhere so remote, but as custom seemed constant during our visit, being in the back of beyond clearly doesn’t mean it isn’t busy.
We both chose snacks rather than a meal a Panini and a wrap sandwich. Both were served with coleslaw, salad, and crisps, and made for a very attractive plate of food. Filling too, and great value.

We had a wonderfully large pot of tea – a change from the single pots which are often smalled than the cup accompanying them. As we still had plenty tea we both felt ‘obliged’ to partake of a delicious tray bake. What a range of fancy eats there are!

Our table was by the window, and could have sat there for long enough watching the passing traffic, and the cyclists who had revived with drinks and carrot cake set off pushing back up the hill on their bikes towards Drumtochty. We watched a stream of cars with wedding guests heading towards Fettercairn, unaware that Pippa Middleton was attending the wedding – she may have been in one of the cars!!

The staff were all very pleasant and friendly, and the service was very good indeed.

The shop is very well worth a browse round too – lots of unusual wee bits and pieces.

We shall most certainly call in again in the not too distant future.

“Good Plain Fare”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

Typical Scottish cafe/restaurant fare very nicely cooked and presented. The welcome is warm and friendly. If you plan to cycle over Cairn O'Mount I'd recommend you stop here to fuel up - you'll need it!

“Great on a wee drive”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Out for a wee drive around and stopped for a coffee, which turned into lunch as the food looked to nice. Homemade tomato soup and a shared panini wtih black pudding and onion chutney pannini. Glad we stopped Nice friendly staff, immaculate restaurant/cafe. Doesn't look much from the outside but the food is great.

“Just the same - thank goodness!”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

I have eaten four times at Clatterin Brig over the past couple of years and it has always been excellent. The staff are very friendly, the setting is picturesque and the food is excellent. The breakfast is as good as I have had anywhere. The Clatterin Burger is also very good, as is the fish and chips and the scampi. For the very reasonable prices, this restaurant is very good indeed. I would recommend it without reservation.

I have spent quite a lot of time in the Royal Deeside / Montrose area and have yet to find a restaurant with better food. It is good enough to warrant a special detour to visit. The Clatterin Brig is also situated on the Cairn O Mount road which has lovely views and where you don't need much imagination to take you back to the days when it was notorious for brigands and cattle rustlers.

There is also plenty of parking at Clatterin Brig right outside the restaurant.
