Despite passing the Clatterin Brig dozens of times over the years, we had never stopped. What a delightful surprise it all was. We were there on a Saturday lunchtime and there were a mixture of couples, cyclists, and a family gathering.
The menu is amazingly wide-ranging for somewhere so remote, but as custom seemed constant during our visit, being in the back of beyond clearly doesn’t mean it isn’t busy.
We both chose snacks rather than a meal a Panini and a wrap sandwich. Both were served with coleslaw, salad, and crisps, and made for a very attractive plate of food. Filling too, and great value.
We had a wonderfully large pot of tea – a change from the single pots which are often smalled than the cup accompanying them. As we still had plenty tea we both felt ‘obliged’ to partake of a delicious tray bake. What a range of fancy eats there are!
Our table was by the window, and could have sat there for long enough watching the passing traffic, and the cyclists who had revived with drinks and carrot cake set off pushing back up the hill on their bikes towards Drumtochty. We watched a stream of cars with wedding guests heading towards Fettercairn, unaware that Pippa Middleton was attending the wedding – she may have been in one of the cars!!
The staff were all very pleasant and friendly, and the service was very good indeed.
The shop is very well worth a browse round too – lots of unusual wee bits and pieces.
We shall most certainly call in again in the not too distant future.
