I have recently completed my annual 3 peaks challenge with a couple of mates and as always we chose to stay at The Crown. I have known Sandra and Thomas for many years and they run an excellent establishment. The welcome is genuine and friendly and the hotel is immaculate. The food is good, honest Yorkshire fodder - perfect for fuelling the body the night before the walk and celebrating and winding down afterwards. Previous poor reviews should be taken into context, ok the bedrooms are not 5 star but what you get is clean, comfortable accommodation with bags of hot water, plenty of towels, comfortable beds and to be honest - value for money. I had the Steak and Mushroom Pie on the first night and a beautifully cooked steak on the second night - both delicious, hearty, no nonsense meals. The beers are superbly kept and served by friendly staff. Early breakfast's are self-service style, we debated over several pints of Old Peculiar the night before if we should get away early for the walk or wait for the 8.30-9am cooked breakfast slot, we opted for the 6 am start! We are pleased we did as it was a hot day for walking the peaks and we were back in 10 hours..The full cooked breakfast the following morning was excellent. This is a great base for walking the area, especially for the 3 peaks challenge. If you are looking for a luxury 5 star boutique experience and only want to pay pub prices then you will probably find something to whinge about,

Stayed locally camping over 2 days nearby did pen-y-Ghent and after a 17mile walk decided to take a chance on getting a able at the crown stud and waited for 10 mins and got a seat near the fire and drank and ordered their fine beer and food and it was all spot on hot, tasty, plenty, and a fair price and I compare it to the crown at Lofthouse which is 10/10 plus some! So well done the crown I will return to you and I holly recommend everyone to give them a try cheers

I had a really lovely meal here, meeting up with friends. the food i basic pub fare but portions are generous, food is really tasty and the service was really quick too. The bar staff were also really friendly and accommodating about my gluten-free requirements, disappearing off to the kitchen to check whether a couple of things were gluten-free and slightly adapting the sides with something so that I could eat it.

The bar area itself is nothing particularly special - decor is tired and well-worn - but if you want somewhere uncomplicated for a reliable, tasty and filling pub dinner then I recommend them!

Traditional pub with traditional ambience. There was a good choice of home cooked food and cosy real fires. The cooked breakfast was very nice with excellent poached eggs and good quality sausages and bacon etc. Some fresh fruit would have complemented the early breakfast for walkers and the packed lunch was fine. The bedrooms were a little dated but clean and adequate, all in all a great base for the 3 peaks challenge.
