“See elephants from the pool!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

The most amazing view of elephants, birds and monkeys all around make this an animal lovers dream! Great staff always happy to help or just say 'Jambo!'. Food is great with an emphasis on not going hungry! Buffet breakfast and lunch and a set menu in the evening, surprisingly fancy food for such a remote location. I can highly recommend the bird walk in the afternoon, a chance to walk around the bush with a Maasai and listen to their knowledge of the area. An all-round great and relaxing atmosphere make for a great stay, and seeing elephants from the pool isnt too bad either!

Room Tip: As far as I could see, all rooms have an excellent view

We went during the low season (May).

The lobby was really hot with lots of mosquitos. The rooms are nice with big beds and ceiling fan. Unfortunately we saw none of Kilimanjaro - it was fogged out.

Compared to other 5 star establishments in Kenya's national parks, I thought the food was just okay.

Beautiful views, elefants all day long in front your room!! Amazing location inside the park limits, with a pleasure place to have lunch.Excelent rooms, staff, gardens, swimming pool, general atmosphere, breakfast!!
I am not rating five stars just because the food , although delicious, is quite simple.
I would stay again !

Amazing views, beautiful rooms, superb food and location.

I really rated it here and loved the feel of the place, it feels quite managed and not totally wild, the park too is very open and field like, with a grid like pattern to where you can drive, which wasn't totally to my taste of safari, but the beauty is still there and the elephant population was amazing. There is even a wonderful view point you can walk up to (handy and very nice loos at the bottom too) to see the amazing views over the whole park, all under the gaze of Mk Kilamanjaro.

But one warning - do not go in your room even for a moment without locking the door behind you - the monkeys have learnt this and will bash open the door and grab the sugar from your coffee area - frightened the hell out of me that day! They also ran past at the crack of dawn banging doors in case anyone hadn't locked theirs - cheeky blighters. That and the night with a bat in our room was quite an experience to laugh about now, he managed to get out the way he'd obviously got in eventually hours later. The shower having a huge window that monkeys would sit above watching me shower was a bit weird feeling too - but it's a talking point, ha ha.

You couldnt ask for more than this lodge. With Kilimanjaro overlooking your room, the pool the food everything is wonderful. The staff are brilliant nothing is to much trouble and they make a big fuss of repeat guests.

The monkeys are so funny you cant leave your door open as they are straight in for the sugar.

Would not do a safari without returning here.

Amazing lodge literally on the edge of Amboseli National Park. Beautiful, peaceful surroundings with wonderful views of Kilimanjaro. Perimeter fence only 50 yards or so from our room. Amboseli is famed for its elephant population and you won't be disappointed. Plenty of elephant activity easily visible. The Authentic lodge with welcoming reception/lobby area with character artefacts and furnishings. Attentive service. Excellent restaurant with buffet breakfast & lunch and choice from menu for dinner. Nice pool and garden areas, but watch out for the baboons! We were told to keep our door shut to keep them out as they like to snatch the sugar sachets from the room, which we duly did, but the still managed to push the door open and get in. After that we always locked the door when we were inside or out. Nice comfortable bedroom. Only thing we didn't like was the fact there is no curtain/blind in covering the large bathroom window. There is a high fence behind and we were assured no-one could look in, but still a bit weird and unnecessary. Electricity is limited at times, as is common in many lodges, but torches are supplied. We were the only Brits staying at the time, which is fine. Surprisingly quite a few families with children. Would recommend this hotel and miss it already!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of Mount Kilimanjaro.

I saw great reviews on Trip Advisor and was excited about visiting the lodge. I travelled with a group of friends and was there for one night. The lodge is strategically placed in the middle of the Amboseli National Park and has great views of elephants and Mount Kilimanjaro.

The lodge is well kept. It is very clean, the rooms were spotless and well taken care of. An interesting feature in the rooms is the wide and open window in the bathrooms where you get to see a bit of nature as you take a shower.

There was good food variety and it very tasty food was served. However, dessert items kept on dwindling without being replenished - this happened both at lunch and at dinner.

However, the service was horrible. The staff were not welcoming or happy. They didn't even say hello. Only 2 staff members said hello during the entire time I was there. At some point, I was struggling to open the door to the eating area while a waiter was counting spoons just next to me and he didn't even offer to help.

If you are looking for the following:

1. Open plains with clear views all around;
2. A quiet place to rest;
3. To see endless views of elephants and more elephants;
4. Uninterrupted views of Mount Kilimanjaro; and
5. A pretty lodge to relax in.

Then Ol Tukai Lodge might be the place for you.
