“Wonderful lodge”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

We stayed here for 2 nights it was the best lodge that we stayed at throughout our safari. The views of mount kilimanjaro are breathtaking there is also great views of the elephants and zebra. The food is excellent and the staff are so friendly and helpful. There are lots of monkeys in the grounds of the lodge there is usually someone on hand to scare them away if they get too close. We would highly recommend this lodge

Ol Tukai Lodge is rated very highly in any travel media you may read that features the lodge. in fact on trip advisor they have a certificate of excellence. they are the top ranked facility of its category in Amboseli National Park in trip advisor. This creates a lot of expectations when you visit the place.
The Lodge is beautiful no doubt, the location is good with serene environment and good views.
However their biggest disappointment is the food. The food is not as nice as one would expect for instance carrots are overcooked etc. Their biggest crime is not replenishing the food stations when they get depleted. in all the meals we had there, whenever a certain item on the menu the replenishing was really poor in some cases no replenishing at all.
Also the items in the rooms were not consistent. we were a group and one room had bathing towels while the other one did not.

All in all, the facility is a fantastic place but they really need to work on the food

Room Tip: rooms with a view of the elephants would be fantastic

The accommodation was in self-contained cottages - very comfortable although some are quite a walk from the restaurant and reception.
Great pool and very good massage!
The restaurant food was goodish and the cooked breakfast excellent

We hardly spent any time here because we we had done a drive on the way there. The rooms were large and clean with nice bathrooms. We had an early morning start the day we were there and saw a herd of elephants not that far from the hotel. A good start to the day !

Well...which was the best bit? The beautifully and tastefully designed public areas and spacious cottage accommodations, the fantastic buffet BBQ meals, the mellow guitarist singing the only version of the Lion Sleeps Tonight that I've ever liked or the Acacia Wood setting overlooking the animals on the plains and on towards Kilimanjaro? I can't decide - you'll have to go and make your own decision!

Room Tip: They're all good...we had an 'Elephant view' room, you could always choose 'Mountain...

We stayed two nights in the Ol Tukai. Great location, lots of elephants and lions.
Very nice accommodations, ideal for families with children as you can book family rooms.
The food was good and there was enough choice to satisfy the children.

Regrettably I cannot join other guests in praise over the lodge as such: booking was difficult, pricing unclear, dining-room crowded and very mediocre food, not so service-minded staff - a great exemption was medical staff on duty when I fell sick the first night of three, a sorry proof was the staff that charged extra for every sip and crumb, when I could not drag myself to the eatery-area.
A consolation was the stunning view from the hut and especially when I could sit out on the veranda. And our driver!
(I wrote along these lines above, and with the same title, rather soon after our stay in Ambosely, but it seems that that review was never accepted?)

Room Tip: Choose a hut with Mountain view - you will see the elephants anyway, and not be so bothered by kitch...
