This was the last stop on our two week safari, and we really can’t find anything negative to say. Rooms are a bit small, but nicely furnished with African themed wildlife murals on the walls. The king sized bed was comfortable and had netting. Hot water bottles were furnished at night but not needed as nighttime temps were warm. The heavy, white robes were a nice touch. A second supply of bottled water is delivered in the evening, which was unique in our experience. The lodge exterior gives one the impression of native village dwellings amidst a beautifully landscaped garden. In fact, the entire property is kept immaculately trimmed with beautiful native plants. There are great views over the savannah with a wide variety of animals being sighted. Unfortunately, there is not a view of Kilimanjaro from the lodge grounds but there’s a good view right outside the entrance gate. Our view was obscured by clouds about 95% of the time, but we did get an occasional glimpse of the snow capped peak - not the lodge‘s fault.
Meals are served buffet style in an attractive, multi-roomed dining area. We had a lovely view over the pond which was lighted at night. The food is excellent and choices abound. There were always several meat choices and vegetarian preparations galore. The creamed soups that were served at the table, were outstanding. There was also a chef station providing a cooked-to -order preparation of the night’s specialty.
Champagne was served gratis at breakfast the first morning. The wait staff was attentive, helpful and friendly. In fact, everyone we encountered had a “jambo” greeting and a smile on their face.
There are several outdoor lounges along with an attractive bar area. Unfortunately, all but one of the outdoor seating areas allowed smoking. The pool is good sized and there were plenty of lounges, tables and umbrellas. The gift shop has a good variety of native crafts and the folks who work there, go out of their way to be helpful. There was also a business center with computers that could be rented for a minimal amount.
We couldn’t have chosen a nicer place in which to spend the final days of a most memorable trip.
