We just got back from a 5 night stay at The Damai, Lovina celebrating our wedding anniversary and are already missing it. We stayed in the Umah Naga suite which had an extremely comfortable king size bed, incredible hillside view and last but definitely not least - a sublime infinity pool sided by a raised wooden pavilion.

During our stay, a purification ceremony was taking place at a nearby family temple which provided constant live ambiance through traditional Balinese mantras and music. For us, this was the perfect soundtrack for our state of mind, but we can understand that it may have bothered others. Then again, they call Bali the "Island of the Gods" so these kinds of events should really be expected. Many roosters can also be heard in the morning time from as early as 4AM so if you're a very light sleeper, it might prove irksome. However, we took delight in all these things and simply had a great time and cultural experience.

Be mindful that Lovina in of itself, is nothing like Ubud or Seminyak so if you are looking for nearby trendy shopping and eating spots The Damai may not be the place for you. However, the hotel does have an excellent restaurant and we enjoyed dining there everyday. The breakfast choices in particular are hearty and excellently prepared, there's nothing better than starting your day with freshly brewed Balinese coffee and tropical fruit juices then strolling back to your infinity pool for a morning swim to cool off.

All in all The Damai is a very high quality boutique hotel experience and we'd recommend anyone looking for an indulgent relaxing vacation to have it at the top of their shortlist.

Room Tip: The Umah Naga suite is great however light sleepers should be wary, as it is directly opposite to th...

Okay, where do I start? We are still staying in the hotel at the moment, and why are we writing this review at 7 in the morning u ask? Because hotel staff wouldn't allow outside tour guide to call our room and wake us up at 5:50 as we scheduled, by the time the staff eventually call us it was 6:10 already, hence we missed our trip. Was he deliberately doing that because we didnt book through hotel for the tour ( which is 3 times more expensive than local tour )? We wouldn't know. Now we have to wake up tmrw morning again at 530 for dolphins trip which means we will be missing hotel's free yoga session, which only happenes twice a week.

Now, let's talk abt the location of the hotel. It is 3.5 hrs away from the airport, hidden in a moutain. Quiet spacious to be fair but not worth the trip/ price to my opinion.

Then the food, I don't know how the previous review was all like best food ever, maybe that chef is on vocation I don't know. But the 3 course dinner I had with duck salad, fish and black rice dessert is very very average, not worth the price at all. But they do have their own little garden which is kinda cute.

The service. As I said, not happy with the front desk not waking us up even after our tour guide showed him our receipt for the tour. Now he claimed he will bring this issue up to the management and get back to us. Hopefully we will have our free yoga session today instead so that we can make it to dolphins tmrw morning, after all, that's the major reason if not all why we are staying here isnt it?

O btw, this resort doesn't provide teeth brush so yep ...

I will write another view after management come to settle our free yoga schedule issue.

Dear Val

We are very sorry for the misunderstanding that made your stay with us start off on the wrong foot. I hope that we managed to make you enjoy North Bali towards the end of your stay.

It was an unfortunate misunderstanding with your local tour guide, that delayed your tour, but I trust you will understand that the hotel cannot let outsiders wake up our guests that early in the morning without showing some sort documentation of their agreement with the guest, which your guide initially was unable to provide. Our guests also inform us when they have made some arrangements with outside guides especially at an early hour like this. This certainly would have prevented this incident from happening.

We encourage our guests to explore our local area and are only happy for them, when they find exciting things to do here. It is true that our tours and services can be found cheaper by sourcing them yourself in Lovina. We only wish for your Bali vacation to be as memorable as possible. I would like to point out that often there is not only a difference in price but also a difference in quality.

We are sorry that we didnt quite meet your expectations on your first dining experience, but hope that we managed better on your subsequent dining experience. If not we hope to be able to welcome you on another occasion in the future...=

Best Regards
M.G.Menon,
General Manager

This place is iincredibly beautiful and relaxing in all thinkable ways: surroundings, views, villas, service, staff, pool, food, massage etc. Very relaxing and luxurious. Staff extremely flexible and friendly. Close to Lovina, which we were not impressed by. Suggest this place for relaxing, reading, walking around, having a massage etc., enjoying meals in the magnificent restaurant or at the poolside. three days here for recovering after stress and jetlag is a very good idea!

Room Tip: We were very satisfied with Villa 2, but have the feeling that all villas are perfect for relaxation...

If rejuvenation is what you are looking for, then The Damai should be your choice! It's tranquil setting, facilities and friendly staff really made our (group of seven) stay memorable.

The Damai provides for a very relaxing holiday through its yoga and spa sessions, and for the more adventurous among us, a boat ride will take you on 'dolphin sighting' trips.

The resort serves a wide variety of food and an abundance of fresh fruits, and service is fast.

The Damai, being a relatively small resort, gives you a homely feel.

for the second time we stayed for 4 days at Damai, it was again relaxed, excellent food, the service is high and the view from the naga master room is amazing. My three children also loved the place, the Spa was also very relaxing. Our next trip to Bali we will visit Damai again that's for sure!

It was a plesant ride up to the Damai with wonderful lush greenery. On arrival it just flet like home to be greeted warmly and when I saw our Villa it was just perfect for us to just relax have fun and enjoy. The Manager Mr Menon is professional , friendly and runs a well kept, clean efficient place with well trained staff and the kitchen had some really good food ;enjoyed my breakfastses but at the same time he is so humble. I have had the best massages at the villa with really well trained staff who did not rush the massages but put all their effort making it a really tailored massage for each of us. The overall experience was just fantastic. Thank you Babu for making it a great stay. Margaret Rajarethnam

This was our first hotel during our honeymoon (4 stayed in 4 hotels across the island). From the reception, where you get a non-alcoholic Mojito (devine!) you already can feel yourself relaxing. It is wonderfully located up the hills, magnificent views. We were upgraded to the royal suite (Raja). It's not a suite: it'a a house!! You have your private pool with a view to die for, a big living room, downstairs TV room, master suite which is soo gorgeous plus other rooms with their own bathroom. Just magnificent.
If the accommodation itself isn't already blowing your mind away, the breakfast and diner will surely do that. Okay this doesn't come cheap, but consider it as a once in a lifetime experience to celebrate something special.

Room Tip: Raja private villa !
