This is by far one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The location is beautiful, the villas are of an incredibly high standard . The staff here are so friendly and helpful and the attention to detail is amazing. And after eating in top restaurants around the world, I believe the food here is equal to the best international standards . If your traveling to the north of Bali this would have to be the best place to stay. I look forwards to my next visit

The villas at Lovina are a pleasure to behold. Being Scandinavian in origin, each villa has an outside shower and jacuzzi in it's own walled courtyard but when the temperature is 30C that's no problem. The grounds are terrific and the restaurant is splendid with cordon bleu cookery. We took the half-day cookery course at the hotel (which included a trip with the chef to the market at Singaraja) and enjoyed cooking the Balinese way - there was so much food that it provided both lunch and dinner for us (so we actually saved money). We only had a 2 night stop here which was lovely, but I'm not sure whether there is enough of interest in the area for a longer stay..

We had a great time at Damai, very friendly staff and personal attitude and it felt like the people really care. It is a small hotel and people find time to talk to you just about anything, it felt cosy and nice, people are cheerfull and smiling. The service was just excellent.
Try the coctails - very nice.
Restaraunt - very good but expensive. You might also explore other dinning options in Lovina, there is a new place called Spice Beach Club which we liked the most appart from Damai's restaraunt, of course.
If you happend to be there then go and see the dolphins and the tour to the waterfall is also recommended in my opinion. Tour to the market was a good experience.
Try to book pool willas - these are very nice, but other ones are good too, the public pool is a good option.
We were there at end of Feb and got a lot of rain, it is the end of the rainy season so we were unlucky I guess. There was lot less rain when we stayed in Ubud the following week, or in Nusa Dua a week before.

Room Tip: Book the pool willas if you can, but other are good too.

I am a regular visitor to Bali but had never been over to the north coast and glad I went if for no other reason to eat at the Damai. This is very much a boutique hotel and the attention flows through as a result. GM Menon showed me the newer villas and these are definitely a notch up from the standard deluxe room that I stayed in. Think private pools and the owners antiques beautifully displayed - much more like a private residence.

I was so impressed with the food on the first night I booked into their cooking class the next day. This was included a trip to the markets at 7am. All organised whilst I ate dinner.

The only thing that would put me off returning is that it is quite a journey over the north coast but definitely worth it.

This was the second of our accommodations in Bali (for our honeymoon!) Like the other two places we stayed in, the Damai was on par with (and, in many ways, exceeded) the others.

The "bad" news first. It's in Lovina. The Lovina area is very far away and took about a 3.5 hour drive (with a couple stops) from the south. (We came from Jimbaran.) Lovina itself isn't a particularly remarkable area. The beach wasn't very swimmable to us and the town "center" didn't have much reason to visit. The only reason one would go there was to go on one of the dolphin watching boat rides, which we did do and saw a great deal of dolphins. (So that was a highlight.)

That being said, the Damai itself is amazing. Easily the most beautiful grounds of all the resorts we stayed in. Elegant, beautiful flora and architecture. The villa was also easily the best we stayed in. Big and a perfect mix of sleek and modern and traditional in feel. Dark woods and tiles, tasteful decor and furniture, and the best "plunge" pool, which was large, wrap-around, and had an amazing view of the hill down to the ocean. The grounds have a walking bridge over a stream, which was a beautiful sight in and of itself. The Damai is one of the best places I've ever stayed in.

The staff, also, is perhaps the best resort staff I've ever encountered. (And this is high praise considering the incredibly high level of service in Bali.) They all knew our names. Incredibly friendly and accommodating. Very skilled in what they do. It was great even talking to the bartenders by the main pool. They are the best!

One thing I didn't know prior to booking here was how food oriented they are. Their restaurant is great. We ate there each night we stayed there (3 nights.) I can't imagine a better resort restaurant, and certainly is a reason to visit the resort even if you don't stay there for a night. One reason might be because a lot of the herbs and vegetables they use are grown on their grounds. Walking from our villa to the restaurant area, you move past garden beds with labels on what is being grown. They also raise rabbits, crayfish, fowl and more in a small farm across the road. It was impressive and reminded me somewhat of Blue Hill at Stone Barns in New York State. (If you know this restaurant/farm, you know this is high praise.) The freshness and innovation of the restaurant's food rivaled restaurants in NYC. We also took a cooking class with one of the chefs, which included a market tour in Singaraja. The class itself was a highlight of our trip.

They have a lot of other classes and activities available, which was great to have as an option.

They also have an amazing signature drink, the "Mojitea" (white tea mojito) that is incredible. We were given one at check-in and had more when we had dinner.

I'm glad we decided to take a chance up north to visit this resort. I feel like the remote nature of the location might be a bit of a hinderance to some. Perhaps, though, a place like this can only really exist in Lovina, as the resorts in other, more crowded areas, had limited space.

I highly recommend this resort!
