“Our lack luxury luxury spa day @ de vere dunston hall Norwich”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

I wrote this to dunston hall and haven't received a response.

My friend and I had massages, a pedicure and use of the pool area. It is easier to record the issues in a list!

Therapy room was cold
Massage was incomplete and oil was cold
Water was given in a disposable cup
The Toilet had blood on the floor
The large yellow mop bucket and mop were in the toilet
The Daido rail had fallen off and there was a hole in the therapy room wall.
Therapists chatted outside the room during our treatment
The pool was murky, the walls were cracked, paint was falling off and all the metal grids were completely rusted.
Parts of ceiling tiles were falling down
It was claustrophobic (basement)
All the long floats had been thrown down some disused stairs.
There was no access to refreshments in the pool area.
The changing rooms were full of mould and rust, the shower was cold and the lockers jammed.
During the £55 pedicure the sinks started gurgling loudly for sometime
another therapist came in and left the door wide open, she proceeded to set up for the next client, running the bath next to me which set off the loud plumbing, she tipped a bucket of water into one of the baths and generally clanged around.
The chairs they used for the pedicure were massage chair so had large protruding pummels sticking out through the fabric. Cushions had been placed over them but they were still uncomfortable.
Refreshments were in paper and plastic cups.
The therapists were lovely but didn't listen to requests or respond fully to statements like "my feet are really freezing." I had already asked for extra towels to warm them up.
I was hoping dunston hall would have been polite enough to respond to my email, sadly not!

My toes do look lovely.

I've stayed here numerous times now, in various rooms and the standards in some of the rooms, in regards to cleaning and general decor are diminishing. A clean bathroom and especially toilet seat should be standard, however, some of these are in need of a total refit, my room, could do with a good clean, the grout on the tiles and the underside of the toilet seat are yellow. Dust is visible on surfaces, dead bugs in the lampshade, peeling wallpaper and general tired fixtures and fittings. The public areas are beautiful and well maintained, it's such a shame that this doesn't stretch to the bedrooms, having stayed in other bedrooms and knowing how they are furnished, I am hoping that there is a refurb planned for all, at present, some rooms are scraping a 2 star! Very disappointed with the falling standards and going forward, considering the clinical Holiday Inn Carrow Road, which lacks the personality of Dunston Hall, but you are sure of a clean well furnished bedroom and bathroom!

A late Christmas present for our friends, afternoon tea at Dunston Hall. The setting was perfect and cosy, staff were very attentive and polite. The food could have feed an army but we did our best !. Would certainly recommend it, and are going to return for a weekend break. If there was anything negative to say it would only be to serve a bit more savoury food than cake, but that didn't spoil the tea.

Me and my wife have stayed at the Dunson Hall Hotel for both a midweek break and a Saturday night and found it offered good facilities with the spa and pool all in great surroundings.

Ideally located outside on the outskirts Norwich and simply a £10 15min taxi journey to the centre it was the perfect base to unwind during the day then head into the city for more lively surroundings.

Rooms: We booked a standard double both times which comes with everything you need T.V free wifi kettle hairdryer etc. Rooms clean tho a little outdated in appearance i suppose this is in charter with the hotel. Our room location on our second stay was at the end of a corridor opposite the cleaners/housekeepers rooms which effected our quality of sleep.

Service: Staff very friendly and helpful

Food: Can only comment on breakfast and this was delicious with great variety and service from staff. The food halls appearance was also more modern spacious and had good views into the garden.

Spa/Pool: Relaxing clean and enjoyable. Good size pool with loungers. Towels are provided and lockers cost £1. Jacuzzi was more warmer on our second stay which we especially enjoyed!

Overall we will definitely stay again and for the price of £99 including breakfast on a saturday this is about spot on!

Very happy with our stay at Dunston Hall. Extremely polite receptionist forthcoming with important information, directions etc. - is quite a large building and rather maze-like! Booked a family room which had two double beds, perfectly spacious for 2 but would be a bit cramped for 4. Spotless and bright, was a lovely room. Tea and coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits... Very good hairdryer, all you needed. Complimentary bottle of wine in the room with our offer which was a nice touch. Fridge. Food was excellent, restuarant is nice and bright, breakfast choices very extensive and lovely array of breads. Pool very nice and used gym - well equipped, only criticism pool changing room / shower floors were a bit dirty... Not too bad though.Wonderful staff and overall excellent value for money for a little weekend or night away. Highly recommeded.

The Hotel gives the impression of being very grand, with its long tree-lined driveway and impressive architecture. Unfortunately when you get inside everything changes. The single lift is incredibly small, some of the décor appears to be out-dated and although the double bedroom was well decorated the bathroom was in desperate need of a modernisation. The air conditioning in the room consisted of a ceiling fan and a portable heater. It was possible to feel the springs through the bed mattress and the bedding seems to have been thrown on randomly as I had to re-make the bed to remove the vast amount of creases and ruffles in the sheets.

All of the staff were very friendly but there seems to be a lack of coordination or any management. The Dinner menu in the main Brasserie restaurant was sparse and uninspiring, and a drink which I ordered when my meal was served eventually arrived 5 minutes after I had finished eating – and even then I had to ask 3 times where my drink was. Breakfast was good apart from the cold mushrooms.

I stayed here on business and when I first checked in I arranged an early morning call, but this never materialised so it was fortunate I woke up at the right time. The spa area was very good and unusually in such hotels the sauna and steam room was pleasantly hot. The hotel has free Wifi but I would not consider the Spa or the free Wifi good enough reasons to stay at this hotel ever again.
