“Not quite as grand or charming.....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2013

We booked the Sprowston based on the lovely photos on their website, but were a bit disappointed in a few areas of the hotel and its amenities. The rooms must be selected with care, as the heat and humidity coming from the pool and spa permeate upstairs, and it can be very hot and stifling if you are in a room above that area. We read a review done by a previous guest, and were happy with the temperature and views from room 355. The rooms at the far end of the hallway in the 350's are cooler and quieter. The issue of a currency converter for my iphone 4 was also difficult to resolve. I expected that this highly touted Marriot property would be equipped with outlets that convert currency and also have a plug adapter like the St Ermins (another Marriot) in London. Not only was that not the case, but the desk staff seemed to have no idea what I needed. Only after pressing them, and having someone else on the staff make a search for one, was I given the appropriate plug and converter. I think a hotel that bills itself as this caliber should be equipped with things like this in 2013, since the mobile phone is such a vital part of life now. A final not should be made about the signage for the hotel. We were driving north from Norwich and almost missed the hotel, as it does not have a proper sign posted far enough in advance and pointing to the actual driveway, so that you can turn from this busy, 2 lane roadway. Almost had a head on collision! It's pretty scary if you are used to driving in the US.

Room Tip: The rooms in the 350's, away from the spa and pool area.

Sprowston Manor is a beautiful building in a lovely setting. Breakfast is of the high standard you expect in a Marriott with plenty of choice. We stayed for 2 nights eating once in the main restaurant and once in the cafe of the golf course bar. On both occasions we really enjoyed our meals. The location of the hotel outside Norwich was ideal for the places we were driving to in north Norfolk and kept us out of the Norwich traffic.
In spite of all its good points, I was unable to sleep because the smoke alarm was placed above the bed and the red light flashed in our eyes all night. We eventually managed some sleep by putting a main light on at the other end of the suite to counteract the flashing. We told Reception about our experience but all they said was that it was the law. They did not offer us another room. We have stayed in many Marriotts in England and abroad and nowhere else is the smoke alarm above the bed.
Why is there no air-conditioning in Marriott Country Clubs?

Used the last of my loyalty points for a couple of nights here/ Very impressive entrance to the hotel up a long drive with the hotel ahead. Check-in was straightforward and we were lucky enough to get a room overlooking the golf course and not the car park.

The room was bright and very comfortable with a complimentary bottle of still and sparkling water. Better still, 3 delicious peaches were also provided. As is usual with hotels, you need a mortgage to make use of the mini bar. More surprising was that internet in your room costs £6 for an hour or £15 for 24. Or you can go downstairs where it is free throughout the public areas.

Superb breakfast with good choice of hot and cold.

Didn't use the leisure facilities, nor did I waste any time wandering around what could have been a lovely park area carrying a bag of sticks :-)

We chose this Marriott resort as we had a golf course we wanted to play in the area. We only stayed here one night and used points to pay for our room. The hotel was crowded with families taking advantage of the indoor pool. Our room was well appointed and an upgrade mini-suite. It was our anniversary and we inquired about a place to eat that might be on the river. We were referred to a pub close by and it was by far the worst meal of our entire trip. Oh well.

The by-now too familiar breakfast buffet was on a par with all the other Marriott's.

Although the golf course looked to be in good condition, we had opted (based on reviews a few months ago) to go to Royal Norwich Club which turned out to be a big mistake.

The fact that we went over an hour out of our way to get there didn't help. Local traffic was pretty scary at times especially if you are not use to driving on the left.

Just on the outskirts of Norwich and easily accessible have to say the Hotel was very good in all respects. Not being a golfer the fact of the course there doesn't matter to me although I am sure to a lot of visitors it is a big plus factor.
The gardens are certainly most seriously maintained and at quite a cost I would guess.
The Hotel is certainly not cheap but without question the room we had I suspect warranted the price charged in the market today. Certainly spaceous with everything you would need like hair dryer etc.
We were taken out by friends for the evening so did not try the restaurant.
However it appeared very quiet and it was midweek and talking to the bar tender he did state that they were not very busy on that day.
Also, there are extensive spa and the like facilities but again did not make use of them.
This place is certainly a very good and well ran Hotel but at the prices asked one would expect it to be so.

High quality rooms, attentive service and very comfortable beds. Excellent buffet breakfast. But: many rooms overlook the recently gravelled golf club/hotel car park and car activity accordingly very noisy until early hours. Lots of noise from revellers returning to their rooms - doors not very soundproof. And why charge £15 per day for wifi in rooms when it is free in the restaurant?

The Sprowston Manor Hotel is a well appointed establishment offering good accommodation and leisure facilities. It is part of the Marriott chain and so has high standards for rooms and facilities. The Hotel has its own golf course and leisure club including indoor swimming pool. The restaurant is good, but there is also a less formal option to dine at the golf clubhouse. The breakfasts in the main restaurant are very good as well. The rooms have modern bathrooms and are spacious. The suites are also very good with plenty of space.
Overall a quality hotel with all the facilities that you could wish for. The hotel is a short taxi ride away from Norwich City Centre.

Room Tip: The suites are very good, as are the rafters rooms in the old part of the hotel.
