“could have been so much better”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

Visited as a group of 6 ladies who wanted to just chill together as all live in different locations. Booked 3 rooms two of which were satisfactory, I was unlucky enough to be in a room on the 3rd floor with a friend and we were awoken approx. 10 times that night with very loud clanging from heating pipes, it started with a bubbling building to a crescendo like a man in the room banging metal on metal, so not ideal as obviously when staying in a hotel room you are paying to SLEEP! We obviously complained the next morning and was offered 20% off our bill which we accepted but was left with the distinct impression this was routine and the hotel knew of this problem, so I returned to reception and asked to speak to the manager who agreed this was unacceptable and swopped our room and knocked 50% off the bill, really it should have been 100%, he said he had heard the pipes banging on entering the hotel that morning!!! Why a hotel of this size has to jeopardise there reputation by putting guests into rooms like this is beyond me and if this is how Marriott hotels treat there paying guests I will not be staying in any more of their hotels. As an afterthought I honestly do not normally complain but we were booked in for Espa treatments at the hotel spa, don t bother, I feel that inspectors from Espa would not be pleased if they visited here for a treatment, use your money wisely and go to The Beauty Room at the Maids Head Hotel in the city centre as there Espa treatments are vastly superior as are their therapists, sprowston manor like a production line, told to get straight off the table and dress at the end of the treatment, anywhere else I ve paid for a treatment, relaxation time is always given. The six of us all had a treatment and the brochure says 60 mins, no one of us had over 45 mins so they rip you off also. won t be back. On a positive note, breakfasts nice, restaurant staff very hospitable, meal on the Saturday evening good.

I was at the hotel for a Ball organised by the Girls High School. We had a great evening in the marquee and the room was plenty big enough for the casino, dancing and the photo booth. Things went downhill when we started to eat. The crab cakes were tasty but dry and made with Cornish crab. Why?! We were 24 miles from Cromer! The service was quick and charming but ours was the last table to be served and when the main course arrived only one of the 4 vegetarians got a meal. 6 or 7 minutes later our lamb was cold as the dishes arrived. Those dishes were all slightly different. One didn't have the white asparagus (why white when we are in the middle of the season and we are in Norfolk!?) and had to be sent back, 2 had potato 2 didn't, and one of my friends who did have potato had the added bonus of grease proof paper in the middle of it. Then pudding arrived. It looked lovely. Chocolate mousse was lovely with a raspberry mousse below, sweet little individual tarte au citron and a square of brownie. The brownie was so dry it could be crumbled. I was informed that they had forgotten the ice cream that should have gone with it and was agreed in advance by the committee. Poor. This meal was charged at £40 per head. Dreadful value for money. I'm glad it wasn't a wedding........Dunstan Hall next time please. I couldn't recommend Sprowston Manor for a large function that includes food.

My Husband and I stayed here for 3 nights over the Bank holiday weekend. The Hotel is situated just outside of Norwich and gives easy access to the City as well as to the surrounding countryside.

The Hotel is set well back from the main road and is surrounded by the on-site golf course, neither of us play but it looked idyllic for those that do.

On arrival at reception to checking out, I can happily say that the staff were excellent, so very friendly and polite and happy to help with anything. The Hotel was very busy over the weekend with a wedding on the Saturday and another function on the Sunday, but it never seemed overcrowded.

We had a ground floor room, overlooking the golf course, which was plenty big enough and exceptionally clean, with all the amenities you expect from a 4 star hotel.

The gym at the hotel is very good, and reasonably well stocked with a good choice of equipment. The swimming pool area was also very nice, busy during the day with children, but later on there is adult only swimming which made it easier, and it is open from early in the morning to late at night.

The breakfast on all 3 mornings was superb, a great buffet choice of hot, cold, continental, fruit, etc. The staff were all again very attentive, and seemed very happy doing there jobs, and the piano player on the way in to the restaurant was a great touch.

We ate 1 night in the Zest restaurant, which is situated away from the main Hotel and is frequented by golfers who have just finished or are just about to start there round. The food here was of a good standard and reasonably priced, although the bar prices were a bit steep.

All in all this is definitely one of the better hotels we have stayed in and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing break in a Beautiful setting.

we recently (May 25th) booked the somerleyton suite for our silver wedding celebrations we had 46 guests for a fork buffet, a drinks reception with canapés and everything was perfect. in charge on the day was Rachael (banqueting) nothing was too much trouble she organised the staff of which there were many she set up the room to my specifications and she delivered outstanding service to all our guests, the food was hot and very tasty and we had a perfect day. The grounds are lovely and we had photos done in them.

I worked for Marriott while at university and I can say that the customer service at this property is exactly as it should be. The front desk, restaurant and room service are adequately staffed by professional, courteous hotel professionals who know their business and respond to requests quickly. We had great experiences with room service and the restaurant and really enjoyed our stay in suite 226 to celebrate our anniversary. We also enjoyed massages at the spa, which we were able to book just one day ahead. (Hotel spas are often fully booked, thus shutting out guest residents who try to book on arrival. I was pleased that there was plenty of availability for us on a short notice).

The only things that could have been improved are an updated bed (ours was a bit saggy) air conditioning (tricky as it's a listed building, but it would be really helpful as it gets quite hot - the hotel does provide fans) and soundproofing or some sort of reduction in the noise level coming out of the function suite. There was a wedding and a party during our stay, and since our room faced the function suite we were kept awake until 12:30 - 1:00 two nights in a row. It would really help if they would put a policy in place of requiring the DJ to turn down the volume of the music at 11:00. I could hear every word of every song even after closing the window and wearing 32 decibel noise reduction earplugs. . People have every right to party but a hotel needs to think of the welfare of all guests, not just those attending an event. I'm sure that we would have been offered another room had we complained about the noise, but we really liked our room and didn't want to leave it!

That said, we had a lovely stay and would gladly return, though we would definitely request a room that does not face the function suite.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face the function suite unless you want to party until 1:00 am!

This is truly a great place to stay. The service was excellent. The breakfasts are a dream-come-true - really fresh and tasty. The only one thing was the toilet flush (I'm not kidding), you have to be fairly patient to get it to work properly!
I would go back tomorrow and hoghly recommend it.

We spent a weekend at the hotel. Service was good across all the restaurants and staff were generally very helpful. the Zest Bar is great for lunch and daytime drinks but atmosphere is a little too much like a cafeteria for dinner, that said the food is fine. The main restaurant is very good. The breakfast was excellent
the rooms were fine but I think they could get a little warm in summer as there is no air-con. The leisure suite was ok but busy.
The golf course was very good, there were lots of people playing but it was well organised and we had a really good paced 2 ball round at peak time on a Saturday.
All in all not the cheapest weekend but good value for money.
