“Pleasant Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2014

Not the first time I have stayed here. Enjoyed it the first time and just as impressed second time around. The Exeter Court is a motel type establishment. Only downside if the weather is as atrocious as it was the night I stayed then the chances are getting drenched are high. The room was clean and the bed nice and comfy. The shower was like a water cannon and certainly scrubbed away the grime of a six hour drive.
Food was very nice too. Enjoyed the steak baguette in the evening and a very generous breakfast. Pleasant staff too. Can't recommend the Exeter Court highly enough.

Reception staff are great, especially Jessica and Beckie, very friendly and helpful! Bar staff also lovely, rooms perfectly acceptable and layout great for lazy people! Would definitely stay again if needed :)

We arrived very late went to the restaurant and were greeted pleasantly. The food for dinner and breakfast was average quality and well presented. The room was clean and warm. Reasonably priced hotel with average food which allows for a quick getaway in the morning when travelling elsewhere and much more reasonably priced than the others in the area.

Having to make an afternoon visit to Exeter, but not wanting to return the same day, we were looking for a budget price with the facility to dine on site, and with easy access from/to the M5. At £59, including breakfast, we had limited expectations. However, arriving a little before check-in time, we were greeted warmly, efficiently checked in and given our room key. The room was small but clean and comfortable with a perfectly adequate en suite bathroom. We were unable to get back for dinner until 9 pm, when the restaurant stops taking orders, but we were again welcomed and given the choice of the restaurant or bar menus without being rushed to make a choice. We went for three courses, with a bottle of wine, and found the food excellently prepared, piping hot, generously portioned and very efficiently served. The price was around two thirds of what we would expect to pay nearer London. Breakfast gave a good choice of cereals and fruit juices, etc, and the cooked alternatives were all we would expect. At every stage in this hotel (or motel), the front-of-house and restaurant staff seemed genuinely anxious to make our stay comfortable and engage in more than just superficial chit-chat. We would be very happy to stay again and would probably go out of our way to do so.

Room Tip: Go for a room on the side away from the A38. Noise isn't a problem, but light pollution may be.

A standard "run of the mill" hotel. It is clean and comfortable and the breakfast was good value. The only disappointing aspects of the stay was the poor interpersonal skills of the staff who failed to acknowledge our presence until prompted by us, a little more training needed here!!!

Having read some of the less than stellar reviews prior to booking it's fair to say that I harboured more than a small amount of trepidation before finally settling on the hotel due to it's low price and the fact it wasn't in the city centre yet was close enough to travel into which is just what I was looking for.

The price was more than reasonable for a twin room between two people that was a definite plus. The room itself was clean and tidy if a little small with complimentary tea and coffee. Towels were provided and the bathroom again was a little small but contained a very powerful power shower than was expected but great all the same.

I would actually agree with prior reviews of the hotel that stated the place feels more like an upmarket motel than a hotel as such due to the design and practical nature of the layout rather than anything lavish or over the top which depending on your preference could be a plus or a negative. If you are after something that is cheap and basic with none of the thrills then this could very well be the hotel to go for.

Finally of note is that breakfast is included in the price yet we found it to be disappointing. Cooked breakfast is served between 8:30 - 10:30 on weekends and even though we arrived at 9am the food served was warmed up and the portion size was very small. The hotel doesn't run any kind of buffet style breakfast and beyond cereal those looking for a more continental breakfast will be out of luck.

Overall there isn't much to dislike staying at the hotel but there isn't much to praise above the ordinary either. The place itself is cheap yet basic, the location is quiet and isolated and the breakfast is average at best. I can't say I was unhappy with my experience but I shan't be staying at the hotel again anytime soon.
