“Mixed feelings.......”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

Staying here overnight we were greeted by a very helpful and friendly receptionist who gave us plenty of information about the hotel. This was more of a motel, with single story rooms set out around a large car park. We were very impressed by the size and decor of our 'suite.' There was a good size sofa at one end. The bed was very large and comfortable. There was more than enough storage space. The bathroom was roomy too, with a great shower. However the down side was a rather unpleasant smell that was detected seemingly when the fan was used following longer periods of non - use. At breakfast we waited a long time to be seated by the staff and had another long wait before our order was taken. The cooked food then arrived quickly but at most was fairly ordinary. Tea and coffee were self- service from large pump jugs. Individual pots would have been nicer.

I was really impressed with this modest hotel which was very reasonably priced. I stayed with work colleagues as we were spending an evening at the nearby Exeter races. Th staff were particularly friendly and helpful and the room was small but well equipped with an excellent shower. The bed was also very comfortable. I had an amazing cooked breakfast and was able to do some work and enjoy a cup of tea while I waited for my taxi, thanks to the excellent free wifi. Great little bar too that put up with us all the night before!

Stayed at the hotel which should really be called a motel, for one night. The dinner on the evening for the group was not bad, the breakfast the following morning was different. Toast, yoghurts and fruit were on one side. There was a choice of yoghurts, but only one choice of fruit there. Tea and coffee was not in pots but was in pump jugs on the table just by the entrance where the cooked breakfasts came out. For breakfast managed to get some fruit and yoghurt, but then had to wait about 20 minutes for someone to come and take our order for cooked breakfasts, it was then at this stage that we found out about the tea and coffee. We had to then wait another 20 minutes for the breakfast to arrive, it was warm and not hot. I ordered a breakfast without beans and got a breakfast with beans. Another person in my group, ordered just scrambled egg, and they tried to tell him that he had ordered a full breakfast.

Looking at the room, this was small, the room was the width of a double bed with a normal bedside cabinet oneside and the other side a double one. The paint on the ceiling was peeling in one place. The heated towel rail which was chromed looked dated and there was no way of switching it on. I don't know how long it had been there but it was showing signs of aging as there was rust coming through.

You had to search for the teas and coffees in the room, which were hidden in a draw, and you would not have noticed them until you see the word hospitality draw.

Another down side is that all the rooms of the hotel are single level buildings in which the rooms are situated, to get to the bar, reception, and restaurant you have to go across the car park, which if it is raining you have to put your coat on, if it is icy you stand the chance of slipping up. The bar of the hotel is small and when I was staying there was noisy, there was no area where you could go if you wanted a drink and just wanted to say read a news paper.

All in all it was not a good experience, and I would not recommend the hotel or rather motel. The only positive thing was that the wifi in the hotel was free to use unlike some of the larger chains.

We stayed here for 2 nights April 19th /20th we just greeted by a friendly receptionist who booked us in very quickly . It is a motel type hotel the room was smaller than we expected but was sufficient and clean with tea baking facilities and tv on wall. The beds were very comfortable so were the pillows and it was very quiet. Breakfast was very nice we had a full English and the dining room was very clean and staff very pleasant. We are going back in 2 weeks time as we are in the area again

On a recent short trip to the area I decided to try the Exeter Court Hotel for two nights April 8 and 9. After a short and pleasant discussion with the receptionist I was offered two double rooms at a cost of 59 pounds per night, including breakfast. The rooms were small but spotless, the hotel is a little aged in a series of buildings, motel style. I found a good TV, coffee and tea making equipment, good bathroom with towel warming racks (a first for me after staying in hundreds of hotels and motels in my life). Free wifi is offered, you need to get a password from the front desk. I had no issues with it.

Having been traveling all day we decided to eat at the restaurant in the hotel after checking the surprisingly good reviews. You can eat in the bar or the restaurant, any item from both menus will be served. The meals were a reasonable price and we were extremely surprised at the quality of the food served, thoroughly enjoyable. In fact it was so good that we ate there the following night, slightly less in quality but still more than adequate.

A full English breakfast is offered and those of us not used to eating so much can probably plan on skipping lunch. The service was impeccable both mornings and evenings and I would not hesitate to stay and eat at the Exeter Court if I found myself in the area again.

I stayed here for 2 nights this week whilst exhibiting at the Westpoint centre in Exeter. The location was convenient for us and very quiet, as although on the A38 it is set back. The main reception and bar/restaurant are very new looking and clean and contemporary; the staff are friendly. The breakfast was fine, nothing special, but perfectly acceptable.
We had a Sunday carvery the evening we arrived (£6.95) - the food was piled high on the plate but the roast beef was quite tough and the yorkshire puddings were like rocks. The staff did offer us a free dessert, but we were full enough from what we had been able to eat.
The room set up was like a motel - the rooms are single storey, set in named blocks to the side of the reception area (i.e. you have to go outside to get from one to the other). We were able to park outside our room which was convenient. The hallway to the room was clean and the carpet was very plush! We had room 28 (a twin) which looked out onto grass and bushes. The room was perfectly acceptable and although the bathroom needed updating, it was not dirty. The bed was really comfortable and the pillows lovely too. I slept really well both nights, which is rare for me when staying away from home. The shower was fine too.

Stayed at Exeter Court for our son's wedding in Lower Aston. Excellent value for money and staff could not do enough for us and our party.of 10. Rooms are clean and well appointed and food is very good. The location is great for exploring Exeter and the surrounding area.

Room Tip: Go for one of the suites. Excellent value.
