Patuno Resort Wakatobi
Reviewed October 18, 2011

Been to Wakatobi area several times, this is definitely the first time that it's a "complete" package.
Wakatobi as a dive site is to die for, but in the past I had to suffer dirty ho(s)tel or tiny home stays. Patuno Resort really fills in the blank.
Staff was very friendly, language was a bit of an issue, but at least they tried their best. I see that improvements on the long range of planning, so look back to returning there sooner than later!!

Although it is a little difficult to get there, it really worths the effort. It is so relaxing, so peaceful that you really disconnect from the real life. We stayed at a huge deluxe room with sea views. The diving and snorkelling were great (millions of colourful fish, turtles, coral...) and the dive master and guides were very reliable and professional. The staff at the hotel very kind and attentive although they should improve their English to understand when you don't want spicy dishes!!. The food is Indonesian (very good curries and fresh fish) but they also serve delicious spaguetti with bolonese sauce. The beach is white sandy and there's nobody at sight!! Clear, clean and warm water, although I would clean off seaweeds from the sand and fit out a bathing and swim area (I'm not sure if this is possible). The sunset walks in the beach are unforgettable. Like paradise.

We went to Patuno for diving. We were positively surprised with the resort. The accomodation is excellent and the location is espectacular!!!!.
The service is nice and the whole staff were helpful and nice.
The diving was Ok because the season was not the best there, but the diving staff is excellent and tried their very best to please us.
The transfers were perfect and smooth.
Regarding the food, they have are very extensive a la carte menu but I would have preferred a shorter menu or a buffet style dinner.
Overall, we will highly recommend Patuno and we will certainly come back.

This is a very good place to stay on this sparsely-populated island, visited mostly by divers, marine biologists and conservationists. The room rate is very reasonable. Rooms have air conditioning, and offer warm showers. There are flat screen TVs, but not connected to cable or to a DVD player, so we didn't watch it much, and probably could have done without it altogether.

There is wifi here, in the reception area of the hotel, and in the dining hall.

The food is pretty good. The best pancakes I have had in Indonesia. Nice and fluffy.

This is a good place for conferences - they have a conference call, with air conditioning and a large stage.

Staff are friendly.

Stunning views of the ocean, including a deserted island very close to the property, with a hollowed-out portion in the middle.

Dan the Amazing Diver Man was our DM....sometimes it was just him, me, my husband and the boat driver checking out new sites. Maybe he even named one after us!hA! We enjoyed our stay at the resort immensely. Our room was very comfortable, had all the basic mod cons, big comfy bed, little room frig and when I ran into a small personal difficulty management took care of it immediately, going above and beyond call of duty for sure...(Thanks Dan!)
In fact all of the staff, starting from the daily groundsweeper to Mo and Imin who run the resort with an enthusiastic and caring hand, seemed genuinely glad to have us there.
The food and water were fine (we are Americans living in AU and somewhat concerned),
special requests are accomadated (tho limited to the reality of being on a small tropical island. For example, no dairy products except canned milk). If you like good wine bring your own but they do have a well stocked liqueor bar and cold beer.

The resort arranged all our travel from Jakarta and back and gave lots of helpful tips. FOr example, we overnited in Jakarta and they suggested the Airport Hotel there. Super easy, clean and conveinent. But the diving was the best. We spent 10 days total and logged 20 dives. They took care of all our gear, loading and unloading onto the boats, fresh water rinseing and drying plus while on the boat sometimes all I had to do was just sit there while someone kitted me up! ha Not quite really but close. Most drift dives, with terrific vis and so much to see. Tho no real big stuff as has become the case with so many coral reefs being over fished. The management seemed to be working hard to help educate the locals, their employees and even visitors towards more sustainable options. Some of which they have started carrying out and some that are works in progress. We were sad to leave of course....who wouldn't be?!! But we really started to feel very comfortable there. We even got to witness the release of an injured sea eagle they had been nursing. Totally cool place and worth the effort to get there.

The resort is really special - great location, rooms are really nice and the grounds excellent. Staff a very nice. Didn't do a lot of snorkelling (had to work) but I do plan to go back soon for that. It takes a while to get there but well worth it for the relaxation, comfort and glorious weather.

The service, helpfulness and extremely friendly staff and management made our stay a very happy one. This is a typical tropical island type of environment, with white beaches, palms and protected swimming. The main reason for our trip was to scuba dive, and I was not disappointed. The visability was always stunning and there are plenty of immaculate, undisturbed reefs that allow 3 dives a day without repetition. The divemasters, Dan and Iman will go out of their way to accomodate your requirements. This is not really a place for divers seeking macro or muck diving, but I have never seen more impressive structural features on the drop offs. You will come away with sightings of all your major sealife wishes, manta, barracuda spirals, banded sea snakes, napoleon, flatheads, sharks, enormous morays et al, and the largest barrel sponges you are likely to sea anywhere. This place should be on your diving bucket list.
