There are great facilities included for your stay that you can use, such as the best-provisioned kids' room I've ever seen, a cosy reading room, outdoor table tennis and BBQ area, etc which makes for a varied and rewarding visit.

Joan and family were really helpful and friendly, helping us out and taking the lead when our flights were cancelled and we had to print out new boarding passes. He even phoned Europecar on our behalf and sorted us out. Ask to see some of the original features of this wonderful house ("me fecit").

We arrived in a disorganised state with no food, but we were supplied with a hearty tray of bread, ham, cheese and wine that kept us going, and even got a sundowner, Catalan-style, on our last evening. A great place, very hospitable hosts, and well worth a few days' stay.

We have stayed at El Nus de Pedra twice in the last year, in October for a month, and at Easter. The first time we drove from England via the Channel Tunnel and France, stopping off for nights in Reims and Lyon on the way and in the Rocamadour and Orleans on the way back. Our satnav took us all the way there with no problem. The second time we flew to Girona. Since we have family who live nearby we didn't hire a car, and enjoyed being away in the hills with total peace and quiet. There is everything you need at El Nus to make total relaxation possible and also all mod cons so that you feel at home: washing machine, iron, central heating for the winter, free wifi, good phone reception, excellent equipment in the kitchen (hob and microwave, orange squeezer for morning juice, coffee maker). The apartments are very spacious. We have stayed in three of them, as we moved when we had extra visitors. I swam in the pool in October and there are fantastic walks to do in the woodland paths and roads and great views of Girona from the property. We loved waking up with the sunrise and looking down the valley to Girona and beyond. Getting our apartment cleaned every few days meant there was really no work to do and there is plenty to do if it rains: snooker, reading in the library, a large playroom for children as well as the outdoor activities (ping-pong, swings and slide, swimming) and barbeques for guests to use. You really need a car for shopping; there are good shops in St Gregori (a few miles away) and some excellent local rural restaurants. We loved Can Xifra (lunch and evening), which is also very child friendly (http://www.canxifra.com/).
Girona is about 25 minutes away, as is the airport and the Roca outlet village is an easy drive on the motorway towards Barcelona. The seaside is less than an hour away and there are some stunningly beautiful and quiet beaches to find: Tamariu is a favourite with lovely little fish restaurants and great swimming. Also Pals (inland and beach), Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell. We didn't go to Barcelona on either of these trips. There is so much to do and see close and hand: medieval villages such as Pals, the amazing market: El mercat del Lleo for fresh produce, coffee, tea, dried fruit and particularly fish and the local market every Sunday in St Gregori. There are also fabulous trips into the Pyrenees and within an hour you can be on top of a mountain or in the volcanic park. We have still much left to explore... Can't wait.

Room Tip: We've stayed in three. The view is fantastic from El Paller and El Graner and they get the morning sun (see photos).

My wife and I just spent three days at this wonderful place. It was a completely unexpected surprise. Everything was great, the location, the rooms, the views, the price, the breakfast and most of all, the owners. Definitely two of the most caring people I've ever encountered in the hotel business.

I really hope to find an excuse for us to go back there again one day.

Girone is just a few minutes, by car, which makes it very convenient if you want to run in to shop or have a great dinner.

Room Tip: While they may not have a traditional "fitness center" or a spa, they do have a pool, a ping pong table, a laundry room, a TV room, a library, a play room for the kids and more. It's a fantastic place for mountain biking or road cycling too.

We have just spent three wonderful days in El Nus de Pedra. Beautiful location, wonderful breakfast. Joan and Montse are amazingly friendly and caring. Lots to do in the area or else lounge by the pool. I highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: People with mobility problems should read the room descriptions carefully as our room had stairs that were almost a ladder into the loft sleeping area. It was not a problem for us, but could be for others.

We've been in El Nus de Perda for five days and liked the place a lot. The setting is beautiful, and so are the apartments and the common facilities. The owner, Joan, and his wife are very nice people, friendly and helpful. There's a lot to do in the area, but even just staying at the house is also a pleasure.

Room Tip: Ask Joan what's best for you
