“Amazing 3 nights at Rhino Safari Camp”
Reviewed December 19, 2013

We were so excited about our holiday to Rhino Safari Camp and our trip exceeded all our expectations. The amazing family atmosphere in such beautiful surroundings just has to be experienced. It was the perfect safari experience for my wife and I and our friend. Jenny and her staff cared for us as if we were members of their family. We were served amazing food and were treated like kings after some amazing trips into the park to see loads of animals. As well as the game drives with the incredibly knowledgeable Steve the fishing was amazing too. Rhino Camp is where simplicity meets luxury and is the perfect all round safari experience which I would recommend to anyone!

What a great place to stay on Kariba, wonderful location with it's simple yet charming lay-out and hospitality and guiding of the highest order.

From the moment our group of 4 arrived to the moment we left, we were made to feel so welcome by Jenny and her staff. We spent 2 nights at Rhino in late November and it truly was a safari experience not to forget. The accommodation is just right with comfortable beds overlooking the Lake and surrounding wildlife making you feel you are part of nature. As for the showers, wow where else can you get a tan in the day or star gaze at the extraordinary night sky while taking a shower.

The food is of an astonishing quality and so nicely presented but best of all is the wildlife. Thanks to Steve for his hugely enjoyable drives where his genuine enthusiasm shines brightly. His knowledge of all the flora and fauna is exceptional covering the huge variety of bird life as well the land animals both great and small. We were very fortunate to see a Black Rhino as well as many other species.

The fishing with Funnyboy is also extremely enjoyable and all in all it was with great sadness we left Jenny who is a warm and hospitable host who ensures your stay will be one difficult to forget. If you are looking for an authentic Kariba experience then Rhino is the perfect place to go.

Our return trip to Rhino Camp in September/October 2013 did not disappoint. The hospitality by Jenny & her team was fantastic, as were the wildlife experiences. Notwithstanding the hot weather, the rooms were comfortable, even at night with the mosquito nets down as the open sided design allowed the slightest breeze access. Steven worked hard to find the Big 5 we particularly wanted to see although we had to make do with fresh black rhino tracks & the same for the leopard. Next time Steven!. The camp environment was enjoyable & the meals outstanding. Quite how that quality of meals appear time after time out of the camp kitchen remains a source of constant amazement. Jenny was a delightful hostess & went out of her way to meet all our expectations. We had a great family time together & will be back!.

In September 2013 we were in the midst of a month long safari that was not going well. We had experience so many negatives that we were almost ready to just pack it in and fly back to the States. This was our fourth safari and the only one on which we had experienced the kind of poor planning and guiding that was driving us crazy. Then we arrived in Rhino Camp and our moral got a huge boost. Jenny and Karl took us under their wing and gave us a great experience. They and their staff were amazing. We cruised the lakeshore, tracked rhino, watched elephants and hippos from our chalet, ate amazing meals (including an anniversary dinner for one of the visiting couples) and relaxed for the first time in days. We had driven into Rhino Camp over the worst road I have ever seen and learned, after we arrived, that guests don't drive in they come by boat or plane. When it was time to leave Jenny and Karl arranged for our guide to drive out and then took us, by boat, to Kariba to meet him. They gave us some valuable pointers on how to finish our safari and avoid many of the problems we had been experiencing.

The camp itself is an interesting place. The chalets, if I can use that word, are very different from most I have stayed in. They are open on the sides and yet arranged so there is privacy. Mosquito nets cover the beds but were not really needed while we were there. The showers worked well and the water was hot, the toilets flushed and the chalets were built so the air circulated and we did not suffer from the heat even though the daytime temperatures reached into the 90's F.

As great as the camp and its surroundings are it is the staff that is truely amazing. If you are looking for a unique African "bush experience" give Rhino Camp a visit.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms. They all overlook the beach and are visited regularly by wildlife.

We have been fortunate enough to visit Rhino Camp many times over the last five years, it's special, probably not for the first time visitor to Africa, but for those seeking that bit more it is unique. The interaction with wildlife an experience not to be missed and not to be hurried. Steve, guide, is knowledgeable - his sight and hearing amazing, his tracking legendary. FunnyBoy, our fisherman, a lovely man who knows Lake Karibas waters so well including some of the best fishing spots. Camp is run by Jenny, a truly wonderful, capable friend and hostess aided by a friendly, obliging staff. They are all part of an incredible team which makes the journey so worthwhile for true aficionados of Africa.

Room Tip: All rooms are open to the lake, no windows and with wonderful views.

An luxury rustic bush camp, situated within the Matusadona National Park on the shorelines of Lake Kariba. Guests are accommodated in seven twin bedded stilted wood and thatch chalets, each with its own en suite open air shower and flush toilet. Each chalet is on the edge of the jesse bush, facing the lake so they benefit from the cooling breeze from the water. Game viewing activities include drives, walks and tracking, and sunset cruises all in the company of a professional guide. For those guests who like to drop a line in the water, we also offer fishing for bream and the world renowned tiger fish, and Elephant Point is regarded as an excellent area to fish in. The Matusadona National Park is home to the Big Five, being lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and the endangered black rhino as well as a host of smaller plains game and over 350 species of birds recorded in the area, making it a birders paradise. Rhino Safari Camp can be accessed by speed boat transfer from Kariba or from the nearby Kiplings/Rhokari and Bumi Hills airstrips. Meals are homestyle and freshly prepared at camp and meal times revolve around the game viewing needs of our guests. The guides and camp manager/owner host guests and offer them a relaxed homely environment in which to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the wilderness of the Matusadona National Park.
