It actually took us a while to find this place. The road leading to it is unmarked, underdeveloped, and passes through what looks like a forest. It was nighttime when we arrived and it felt creepy: There are only 6 rooms in the hotel (It's more of a villa with rooms, really), just two staff members and we were the only guests there. No check-in procedure: Our luggage was deposited in the room and we were done.

The room itself was very large with great finishings. A four poster bed with a net, closets, multiple windows with great views of the gardens and goof WiFi.

Admittedly, you can feel pretty scared in this place (it really is very quiet!) but the seclusion can be great as a romantic getaway. It was great to hang around by the very excellent pool all day and the two staff who didn't really understand perfect English, tried very hard to please. Their food was great (especially breakfast) they gave us space - which meant that we felt we had privacy even in the public areas of the hotel.

I stayed here for 2 nights on my visit to Sri Lanka, I specifically wanted a hotel out of Colombo which is not a city hotel. This place was a treat. Very creative and full of art all over. Lots of nature despite the fact that it is situated 30-45 mins from Colombo. Eventhough most guests might not enjoy the trip from hotel to Colombo, at the end of the day when you are back and resting it is very relaxing.

Probably the only letdown you get is food. I don't mean to say the food is bad, but choice is very limited. But thumbs up for the Sri Lankan food. Amazingly tasty. I think another reviewer too had pointed this out. Which was correct.

Staff was kind and very attentive. Recommended highly for someone looking to escape city and stay in a place peacefully.

Kaduwela rock chalet is ideally located in midst of a rubber estate about 30 minutes from Colombo. This is a boutique hotel having six bedrooms. The rooms are very clean and comfortabe. The toilets are very clean. It is a large estate bungalow with a swimming pool. You can stroll around the rubber estate at leisure. The food is excellent no wonder the manager is an executive chef. This is an ideal place to relax close to a capital city.

Room Tip: Just opposit the pool

All other positive reviews are spot on. Service and food are top notch. Garden and Pool and Manager and Rooms are great. Have stayed twice with my son and had great time.
Yes the last km to resort is on a terrible road and the traffic to Colombo is heavy. But it still is fairly convenient to the High Level Rd and central Colombo. The best room is the one immediately on your right as you enter the hotel. Will be going back for sure.

We reached Colombo late evening and reached Rock Chalet directly after an hour and half. We could not enjoy the ride as it was pitch dark already. Spotting the resort was slightly challenging, But, the resort was just wonderful. Do not miss out the pool. We were a bunch of friends meeting after a long time and we enjoyed a lot in the pool. The service staff was cordial. They offered us a bunch of options to choose from for the breakfast. The breakfast was well prepared and we thoroughly enjoyed it before leaving. Note: Sri Lanka Roti is not the same as Indian Roti !!

A previous reviewer "Dark Horse" has said it all. It is a long way from the airport (about 90 minutes by car) but it is a lovely retreat and well worth the trip if you want peace and relaxation for a couple of days. The manager and staff are very welcoming and keen to help. We only stayed here for our first night in Sri Lanka and found it a great place to unwind and acclimatise to Sri Lanka. The massages here set us up for the rest of our holiday.

Tip 1) - take a stroll down the road past the gatehouse and go and check out the rubber plantation.
Tip 2) - stick with Sri Lankan food; it's delicious
Tip 3) - Vodka and other shorts are only sold by the bottle, so stick to beer.
