Owner description: Just like the sailors of old, you’d recognize this Venetian island by the picturesque pastel-colored houses and buildings visible from its shores. Burano also is famous for its intimate lace, an art its people want to keep alive.

Taking a short thirty minute vaporetto ride from Venice will put you in Burano. The island is a cacophony of colors, quaint homes and lovely canal side restaurants. Still in April there were too many people for this artist to sit peacefully and paint - thus numerous photos were taken to satisfy the creative urge and memories for future paintings. Shopping was abundant as well. A side trip definitely worth taking away from the hustle and bustle of Venice.

Burano is located approximately 45 minutes by Vaporetto from Venezia Santa Lucia train station.

While touristic, it is not as crowded as Murano and less than ever Venice.
The trademarks of this small island are the colorful small houses that characterize its small centre: simply awesome! Bright red, yellow, purple, blue and green constructions that creates an awesome effect.
I spent a good two hours taking pictures of them, but I could have easily stayed there more.
I also liked the fact that it's rather easy to find quiet streets (calli) where to take pics or walk by yourself without hundreds of tourists around.
The locals seemed quiet reserved to a point of being unfriendly, but I didn't mind too much.

Other than enjoying a walk looking at the colors there is not much else to see. The San Martino church is nice but more interesting is probably its leaning belltower. I didn't visit the Merletto museum as I was not interested.

Burano is a very nice spot to spend half a day far from the crowds of Venice, don't miss it!

The houses are painted sunshine yellows, grassy green, vibrant blues amongst other colours. The waterways reflect the colourful buildings and when a boat goes past the water ripples leaving wonderful photogenic effects. This place is full of tiny restaurants and lunchtime is a leisurely affair taking in most of the afternoon. Burano must be one of the prettiest Islands in the world. It is certainly the most colourful. Unfortunately you don't see the lace makers anymore but shopping for lace makes this a shopaholic’s paradise.

Burano is a picturesque island worth visiting. 2-3 hours gives time to stroll the streets and explore the edges of the small town made famous by it's lace making industry. Possibly best visited as part of a typical "3 islands" tour to Murano, Burano and Torcello.
