“Gastronomy in harmony”

We came across this restaurant by chance whilst strolling through this peaceful island. It was a hidden gem.

We happened to be in season for their speciality dish - soft shell crabs. I was very impressed.

“Get away from the crowds and eat with locals”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2013

We were given a card by a person we had purchased some local produce from. She suggested a walk off the main path in Burano and we were not disappointed. The price was very good and the food excellent. Simple and fresh dishes with a good Italian wine. Worth a visit if you are on the island.

“Delighful Experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

Burano is the most beautiful place and at its best away from the crowded centre, along one of the little side canals which is where we happened to stumble upon Da Forner. Seated canal-side in the Autumn sunshine and lunching on a simple meal of delicious frito misto and fresh rolls accompanied by a very good house white, whilst watching an elderly lady making lace on her porch was the highlight of our holiday. Perhaps we were just fortunate that everything came together to create that perfect experience but it was in no small way due to the excellent food and service we received in this resturant. Seek it out!

“A restaurant away from the crowds”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2013

Staying on Mazzorbo for a few days, we had the opportunity to amble around neighbouring Burano a few times. Most of Burano's restaurants are situated on the main drag where all the lace shops are, and most serve up the same overpriced fish. The Ristorante Da Forner is away from this main area. It is a typical osteria, as with most Venetian restaurants serves mainly fish. What distinguishes it is its lack of pretension and its charming owners. One can sit out in the sun in good weather. There is a daily set menu with two or three courses, very reasonably priced. We both started with pasta with prawns and courgettes followed by squid in its own ink with yellow polenta, both courses well cooked and very tasty. Have an aperol spritz whilst ordering your food.

“Fresh food and kind personnel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2013

We liked the tasting menu (€22)particularly the fresh fish (main course). The house wine, was pleasant and affordable, compared with the ridiculous premium they charge in Venice, here we paid 13 Euros for 1 liter Of slightly sparkling white wine. The waiters were very friendly.
Our only criticism is a serving charge of 2.50 Euros per person, quite high, and the appetizer prawns that were clearly frozen.
In total we paid about €33 per person, including coffee. Not cheap but at least we enjoyed the meal, which has not been the case too often in Venice.
